Aly Mawji so it looks like it's an issue I have seen someone else post something similar to this I would suggest opening a ticket with Alpina if you haven't already. Seems to be saving the settings in my app/phone.

smart770 yes you do. Unfortunately GPS is not built into this watch and it uses the GPS on your phone. That’s why Alpina says Connected GPS. Thanks for watching.

The good news is that you can still record the activity of the walk/run but not the mapping part. That's a nice to have. As long as the steps data is captured and sent to app at next sync, which I think it is. That's ok for me. So far it's working well....Thanks again for doing the vid. I need to watch again to fully understand. The manual is poor. I'm sure they're working on improving this. You should put the link for this up on the comments section.

Hi Christopher, they should put it in another area but it's under "sleep cycle alarms" in there you can create a new alarm and then in the "window" section just set that to 0min and it will alarm at the correct time. Not very intuitive but it does work and it's a different sound that just the normal beep for notifications. Hope that helps and hope you are enjoying the watch!

Thanks pal - yes it works fine on the alarm with that tip! I just wish it was the same tone and persistence when it came to the phone alert. When you use the timer to count down does the alarm go off to let you know it has reached 0? I am about to check out the sleep function. Really cool you have these videos online buddy!

SENGVIN I agree with you in that in terms of smart functionality it just isn’t there. As much as I do like the watch I would have been disappointed paying full price instead of the KS price. Still happy with the look of mine but I really don’t use the functions as much as a true ABC watch. Happy to have helped you make a decision.

Thanks very much! You don't have to worry about the GPS being on/off as it has none built in. It uses the GPS from your phone when connected via Bluetooth. The only radiation you would consider is the EMR from Bluetooth which from what I can tell is minimal. Thx!

Thanks I appreciate it. Sadly I sold the piece a while back, I think this watch had the makings to be something really great. If they could have it function completely standalone I would have kept it. Also the battery life seems to be all over the place for me from the time I had it to when I sold it was about 1 year and the battery was still good. I did like the watch especially the overall weight look and feel. If they released something that can function more like a standalone piece and about 42mm I would have to revisit it.

@@ttt2k really appreciate the reply good sir. I’m in the GTA as well. Picking up a brand new one up for $500. I think for that price, it’s worth giving it a shot.

@@superfast30 Np at all happy to help. Seeing as this is brand new I would say it's a fair price since I sold mine for a little less than that which was used and with a cut strap. Also I think you have to look at what your expectations are for the watch. So if you can live with the shortcomings and what you can do without the app and what you need the app for, then I would say go for it. For me I would have loved to keep the watch the look and feel were excellent, a tad bit too big but nothing that was a deal breaker. However at the time I really wanted to get into automatics so I sold it and bought something else. I know subsequent firmware releases also fixed some issues and added the ability to set a timer without the app. There might be additional functions added since I did this review. Just check out the various watch forums as well for feedback so you make an informed decision either way. Good luck!!

@@ttt2k I really appreciate the info. Been collecting mechanical watches for over 20 years. Have more than I can count lol. I don’t have any expectations for the alpina really other than basic notifications. I just like the fact that I don’t need to charge it daily and it doesn’t look like smart watch. Will be a cheap daily beater.

@@superfast30 Glad I could help. If you are using this a cheap beater you are going to really like this watch! The case material is pretty unique and you will be surprised as to just how light it is. I bought it for the same reason as you are, it was a semi-smart watch that was pretty stealthy. When I travelled the auto time sync with your phone was also pretty slick. I let it go for a MB timewalker which I have no regrets. Mechanical watch collecting is that rabbit hole I never expected going down lol. Enjoy the watch, let me know what you think once you have it.

Yes it does, it has a mode for that set right on the watch itself.

Yes and no. The watch itself standalone does not have an alarm. However you can set alarms via the app which then syncs to the phone. It's not ideal but the feature is there.

Typically about 2 yrs but it really depends on what functions you are using and how often. Some people have reported as short as 6 months and some 4 yrs.

Hi Phillip, the battery I would say was not two years from the KS campaign. At best a year and a half. But I think it's capable of two years. You can replace the battery but a coin slot would certainly help with ease of replacement. Yes I agree they could have done more to make it standalone, something as simple as setting the time required the phone 🤦🏾‍♂️. I should say I don't have the watch anymore. Mainly because I really wanted to get into mechanical watches. I have a feeling there will be a second gen with a touchscreen but who knows. Sales were poor outside of the KS campaign and I took a hit selling mine. But some days i do miss mine.
