I heard la scala and that was life changing. One day I want to experience VOTT like this. The microphone was picking up pressure from the horned woofer. That must be euphoric in person 😊

Love VOTs❤️❤️❤️. My horns rang at the lips. I put automotive door edge guard on the lips and the ringing stopped. To look at them you would never know that they didn’t belong there.lol.

And another thing. They come from a time when there was no reason to produce anything below 40 Hz. I use a subwoofer and it’s wonderful in my opinion.

The sound throw from the sec horns with that " thump in your chest" of that woofer/horn midrange combination from the A7s is kind of a wow feeling . I was amazed to see a setup at A/M Records recording studio using four wall mounted A7s .

Had a bar back in the early 70's had 4 of these in the back bar and 2 large bic venturi's in the front pushed by a Crown DC300a. Ridiculous but fun............
@peterdefrankrijker6 ай бұрын
We took these on the road in the 70s thru the 90s as a pa system for a theatre group playing Jesus Christ Superstar. The original bass drivers in these were very efficient at 97dB@1W@1m so we could power the whole setup with 2x120W for impressive volume. That was convenient because aa an amateur group we were always broke. The downside of that sensitivity is that the air gap in the bass drivers is so tight that even a slight jostle could deform the chassis enough to seize up the voice coil. It took a hammer and few well-aimed taps to free them up again. The system doesn’t deliver any sub bass but the normal bass runs deep enough for excellent music reproduction. Together with the 811s It’s one of the most musical sounding systems I’ve ever heard and a very pleasant listen if your room is large enough.
@jesse756 ай бұрын
I've built many of the bass cabinets. Even substituted different woofers. As an experiment, I modified the horn to bolt in an 18 inch woofer. Now that made some low bass notes.
@peterdefrankrijker6 ай бұрын
@@jesse75 It should also be possible to tune the bass reflex system to emphasize the low end more. Although what you gain in one frequency, you lose somewhere else so it’s always a trade-off. I have never felt the A7’s to lack bass. They don’t have that very modern _thump_ but they also don’t have the boominess that so often comes with it. And a bass-heavy dance track like Starlight by Superman Lovers comes out really nicely.
@jesse756 ай бұрын
@@peterdefrankrijker I listen to heavy metal guitar and play guitar also. I used a tone generator to tune the port to 40hz. Listening to a song, as an example Love to Love by UFO, was very impressive. The resonating of Micheal Schenker's Marshall amps accompanied by the bass guitar was at concert level with my Sansui BA -3000. Also the studio version of 100,000 years by KISS, brought out some wicked bass notes especially at the end of the song. I have a pair of black widow 18's that I've had collecting dust for twenty years in the closet. I'm planning on building another pair and using them. For now I'm using some JBL PA speakers for home stereo. MR 938's and SR 4725's. They play at concert level through my dynaco stereo 410 for now. My wife also does that kirokee thing through the 4725's. 4560 JBL was a popular speaker enclosure to use in the 70's. I've seen them used at every concert back in the day. I've also thought of increasing the size of that JBL cabinet to hold an 18 inch. Run two of them per side is also a possibility. That is really how to get the concert sound imagine, only with a front loaded horn throwing and pointing the sound at you. Holst and The Planets I remember, sounded incredible through the 18's, especially Mars.

You need audiophile cables ) I mean it. First connect the compression driver with thick Litz wires. And use a braided cable as a main one. But pay your attention on that almost all braided cables have one color twisted in one direction. You have to take a half of left twisted and a half of right twisted for one end and the rest for the other end, to have a near zero inductance as a result. Loudspeakers are fantastic. I wouldn't swap them for Utopia or Sonus. Cheers.

Altec came before Klipsch and was an offshoot of Western Electric. Altec speakers are of considerably higher build quality than Klipsch and IMO sound smoother and more realistic. That's my opinion--some people prefer Klipsch sound.
