That excercise reminds me of the wargames conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy before embarking on the Battle of Midway. The first game concluded that the Japanese would lose at least two, probably three carriers. Of course, the Japanese admirality was not too pleased so they did the wargame again, and again, and again. Untill they were satisfied that the three American carriers would be wiped out, Midway would be taken and no Japanese carriers would be lost.
@nbewarwe Жыл бұрын
I believe that the loss of the carriers was due to the American player expecting the attack and moving their carriers down south to respond and defend the island. The admirals disregarded this result since this was a surprise attack and the Americans wouldn't know it was coming. So they took away the American's intel advantage and moved out their carriers, and then the Japanese won. Come the Battle of Midway, the Americans intercepted Japanese messages beforehand, so they expected the attack and moved their carriers down south to respond and defend the island.

Ehhhhh... no. These exercises had quite a few glitches going in favor of the red team as opposed to the IJN ignoring a possible response by the US. For example, Ripper had to contend with US jamming his radio communications and does what the video says he did, use motorcycles and light signals. But in the simulation, these communications were treated JUST AS EFFECTIVE as radio! So, you have your speedboats armed with ASMs (which is another glitch as those speedboats are too small to handle anti-ship missiles by the way), spot the US fleet and light signal to motorcyclists on shore who instantly see the light signal, instantly deliver the message to missile batteries miles away and said batteries fire the missiles at the US fleet in at the same time the speedboats that can't carry missiles IRL shoot at the US fleet from point blank range because of one final glitch... The simulation *spawned the US fleet with the inability to fire any defenses!* Ripper knew of the glitches and took advantage of them. He didn't "out-perform" the US Navy at all. Just the then-new AI.

There's a whole lot of shenanigans going on with Millennium Challenge 2002, like the Red side having lightspeed motorcycle messengers (so their communications couldn't be intercepted), launching Exocet missiles from boats smaller than the missiles themselves, and the Blue side not being allowed to shoot Red's troop transports despite very much being able to, and Van Riper otherwise gaming the system to the extent they didn't really learn much except: A. The software they used to simulate the missiles and suicide boats had a couple of issues, and B. to not put Van Riper in charge of red team anymore.
@MrJimheeren Жыл бұрын
You’ve got that the other way around. Ripper wasn’t allowed to shoot down all those brand new V22 Osprey’s the navy was showing off. And I’ve never read anything about lighting fast motor cycles. The army uses quite advanced simulations when playing these war games. Plus after the first round when the red team sank all those ships the marines just put a couple of LAV53 fighting vehicles in the decks of the aircraft carrier to shoot at all those small boats

The best way for them to carry out a nuclear attack o the US is to use a dirty bomb. All of which is traceable. So they aren't going to carry out a full scale nuclear attack on US soil. If you think they will, you're simply a moron. The best way they could use their nuclear capabilities is to use it in a defensive matter if the US were to invade their homeland. Or if they use one in the surrounding countries around Iran with active US military bases. That then would be an offensive matter. But that is the stupidest thing they could ever do. Don't underestimate the Iranians and their ability to hold off an American invasion. Iran can, and will be WORSE than Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan all combined if the US decides to do more regime change to Iran.

I'm speaking from the perspective of a former Canadian soldier who worked as op for for Americans at times. If blue for looses then they take something away from red for and run the exercise again. They do that as many times as it takes to make blue for win and then pat thems on the back for a job well done. Then they're absolutely stunned when real war does not work like that.

When someone is talking about MC 2002 So, to summarize; Because the USN wanted to practice amphibious landing within the allotted time period for the massive exercise, the only possible place to do so was right on the shoreline in a tiny strip. However, because of a modelling error, the computer thought the ships had been teleported feet away from a massive armada of small boats and civilian planes that IRL could not have supported the weight alone(never mind the guidance and support systems) of the missiles they were firing point blank range into this fleet. On top of that, the simulator that ran the ship's defenses wasn't functioning properly due to the fact that the engagement was happening in the wrong area so it was turned off. Whoops. Oh, and the Blue Force had no idea this had happened until after the fact.

Many Iranians hate their current government (regime) but they're also very nationalistic, no matter how hard US tries they won't be able to win over 80million emotional people. Just like Iraq who almost all the world powers including the US supported couldn't gain any territory after 8 long years. It's most definitely true that Iran would be devastated but it wouldn't be conquered. The smartest idea is to just use political force, isolation, and sanctions to deter Iran.

They wouldn't say anything like that. They would congratulate Trump for being so tough on terrorism or something and five minutes later they'd be sending arms to the Iranians. Iran will absolutely be as successful as van Riper in the Strait. This is not a matter of technology and firepower, which they could never match, and they know that, so they have built their navy SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS SITUATION. And of course, thousands of Iranians would die. That's the whole point. It is a matter of numbers of small craft and missiles, and it is a matter of the relative maneuverability of big clunky oil tankers and warships against assymetric swarm tactics in the strait, and they win.
