Are you pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry, but weren’t admitted with the first intake of students? There is an alternative route. #ChooseUP

Guys don't do it, it's a trap! If you didn't get into medicine rather not attend university that year and apply to get in next year. If you need to you can even upgrade your marks. The overwhelming majority of bsc students trying to get into medicine via this path don't make it and it's difficult to get a job with a Bsc degree (also the jobs obtained from a bsc degree have very little career growth, a weak job security and unfair salary compensation) Just sacrifice one year of not being in university so you can secure your dream career instead of going through this hassle, you'll thank yourself later.

I did upgrade my results and I have one A(Life Sciences) and 6 B's but I wasn't accepted for medicine at any of the universities I applied at. my point is upgrading your results may not help either, then you have no other choice but to do that BSc degree.

The thing is universities would rather accept a matric than a bsc student into medicine, so if anything going via the Bsc route actually reduces your chances of getting accepted even more than already. Really it's either medicine or a completely different field, a bsc in biology is not a viable option IN South Africa, even people who intended to Bsc in biology degrees from the beginning said that they completely regret it. Try the Cuba medical program or try applying for a Medical Chinese scholarship program.

Does this mean if I have a degree, I wont be able to do this course to be transferred to medicine ?

This route somehow still depending on your grade 12 marks seems a little counterintuitive doesn't it?

Yes it is very counter intuitive. I remomend going to Wits instead, not many people achieved a 70 in math

Do they consider your first year and 2nd year results if you have competed your B.Sc degree and you wanna apply for BDS and MBChB. How do they calculate marks for MBCHB entry for someone who completed their undergraduate studies?...l wish to get answer

Hello , I don't know if you can assist but I got an offer for BSc Biological Sciences and want to change next year to medicine , any idea on which modules I can choose ? I will be happy if I get an answer

You have to take the core and fundamental modules of bsc bio sciences, excluding wtw 134, then you have to add MGW, MTL and FIL as extra modules to be eligible two switch to medicine

I don't really understand why people are so obsessed with Medicine whereas there's other good careers one can pursue e.g Engineering, Maths, Tech, Stat, and AccSci

Do the GEMP programme at WITS
