Still have the map sprinkled with large chalk boulders. I can't understand why they have white rocks everywhere. There must surely be a reason.

It's probably an attemt from the swiss makers of the game to emulate the migrating boulders left in the landscape after the last ice age. It's the only plausible explanation I can think of. We have lots of them here in Norway as well. Including a fairly large one in the woods a few hundred metres away from my house.

Im glad you use cuts in your rail lines, I've seen a few creators avoid them, but I grew up near a pretty impressive cut that was used in the 1800s and it's really dramatic and cool to see. 95 feet long, 170 ft deep.

I think you should still be able to do the mountain at 3% (or even lower). Recall that after the top of the helix, you wound up with a bit flatter section for the bridge and the first tunnel. The part that may actually need more of a re-route is the slope down the other side (you might need to add some snakey bits). Basically though, for 3% the goal is to find a 5km path to gain the 150 meters. So even if it's a bit "extravagant" again, you're actually not being inefficient at all unless you wind up going significantly over the 5 km mark. If you want to check if the current path will work, just check the length by dragging a track alongside (as if you were double tracking it). If it's 5km, you can just follow the same basic path at the 3% grade and you'll make it just fine. You'll need to adjust slightly so you're not digging deep into the hillside, but if anything that should just mean some more length to work with (since the helix will become wider). If the path is more than 5km, you could also divide 150 by the length of the path, know what the constant grade should be.

Hey Grand, you want to talk steep grades, check out the Mount Washington Cog Railway opened in 1868. It has an average grade over 25% and maximum grade of 37%.

I can never see how to get the white background/contour levels, when I hit the layers button I just get a black screen with the industry icons showing (if I have them turned on).

Learned something again. Is there a possibility, if I buy the game, to choose a layout that is easy to edit as a beginner? Like more flat landscapes, not too many mountains, not too many height differences, etc? Can I also choose, for example, how many industries there may be?

There certainly is! Each map has a variety of options that you can use sliders to change the landscape. It is quite easy to make the map the way you want!

I recommend playing the first few campaign maps first as a sort of tutorial. There are lots of options for modifying maps when you want to try one.

For airlines is not possible to have waypoints because they travel in 3 dimension

you can just have geographic waypoints and let the plane decide of altitude on its own

you should really up grade the tracks to better detail ones to the killakanz's UK railway track pack. i use these tracks on all my maps as i just cannot use the base game ones as if it was real life how the track stay connected to sleepers. it bugs me so much i refuse to use base game track

I am a bit stumped why you PAUSE the game when you build new track and stations. I would think you would want the money to keep coming in why you are building???

Multiple reasons. In this case; Line frequency means money will go out before coming in, and you'll also start paying maintenance on track you're laying. That lowers your budget unnecessarily. Refunds for pulling track is timed. Lastly. Glitching can happen if you're adding track to existing operational lines.
