This is a video showing you alternative bits that are much cheaper than the router bits sold on Shaper Tools’ website. The prices that Shaper Tools offers for their bits are really expensive, and you can find much cheaper alternatives that will do a similar job. This video provides some examples.
Find links to alternative bits here: docs.google.com/document/d/1B...

Welcome to my woodworking channel. I am passionate about taking the most wonderful woods mother nature created and turning them into beautiful objects of day to day use. This is not a DIY channel about teaching the woodworking craft, showing you new and nifty techniques about how to build wooden objects or anything alike.

As usual my friend a great topic and vid. I totally agree with you about the bits. It’s hard to understand paying that level of pricing for something like this. It all comes down to perceived value, and as you demonstrated, we’ll I don’t see it. I do gravitate to higher quality router bits than most, as long as the price is reasonable. I love Whiteside bits for example, but have also bought different types of engraving bits on Amazon. I just use the Whiteside bits more thus, I look for better steel in the cutter. No need to apologize about Shaper my friend, what you do with your vids is invaluable. The way I see it your just keeping them honest!

I’m building something right now for someone. And it’s quite unique. I’ll show you first once completed. Would love your option. Whiteside bits are great. Hi David. Thanks for your thoughtful response and you are absolutely right. The main reason I didn't compare cut quality is, that I actually have not bought the SO bits, and I am not planning to spend that money. But I think I did explicitly mention, that there is a quality difference, as the expensive bits are hopefully of better quality. People need to decide what quality they are looking for, and the video provides the options so they can explore the space. Thanks again, Javier

@Woodensoul
@Woodensoul Жыл бұрын
Most welcome my friend, glad if you like the video. I don't have a good/valid answer for you, because I haven't done a scientific evaluation. What I can say, is that from all in general, I haven't had awful experience with cheap bits and only rarely do they break. The 1/8" for instance, I still have the full set of 10, and they still cut like a charm. One source of information are also the Amazon ratings. If bits have 4+ stars from a couple of dozen people, that is usually a good sign that these are sold constantly with good results. But I do assume that the ones from Shaper are better quality, might last longer and sometimes cut more cleanly. I certainly hope they do, given the price difference. So I would take cut quality into account: If you work often on things where you need perfect cut quality, buying a more expensive one should be worth it.

You compared a 3-flute spiral 16mm bit to a 2-flute straight 16mm bit. Then said maybe there is some magic in the 3-flute one. Yeah, more flutes, better cut quality, spiral flutes, faster feed/plunge rates. Why is it triple the cost? Because it performs faster, cuts cooler, and leaves a better finish. I have looked for 3-flute plunging spiral bits similar to Shaper Tools 16mm bit and am not finding one.
@Woodensoul
@Woodensoul Жыл бұрын
Hi Devin. Absolutely, I am not debating that, in fact that is why I have mentioned "similar, not the same". The point of the video is for people to compare and decide what they need. I have been very happy with the 2-flute one and have no need to spend triple the money for better cut quality. Comparing the cut qualities would have been nice, but as I am not planning to spend that money for a router bit, someone else will have to do that video. Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Javier
