Thanks for this. Its tough to find info on alternator field draw current. I have a Ford C900 firetruck with the 534 gas V8. Leece Nevill 105a alternator, discovered motorcraft regulator went bad and cannot seem to find a direct replacement, just threw on a typical Ford reg, and it worked for an hour and quit.. and I suspect I cooked it with the large leece Nevill alt.

Well this certainly explains why I have been having troubles on my 89 Dodge diesel with regulators. The auto parts stores around here all sell Standard brand VR125 as the proper regulator for my truck that factory had a 120amp Bosch alternator. This doesn't really explain why I failed the genuine Mopar USA made regulator in about 6months as well unless they are no longer putting the right guts in their regulators either. If it dies again I may have to try one of the transpo HD units. I have a couple of videos about the saga on my you tube channel. Thanks for the info!

plus your alternator was closer to 15v so the draw even higher

Hi could you comment if you were to break the b+ on the ternate to the exciter of the starter motor and shillac both broken ends and twist them together Like a rope with the wires wound 17 times and threaded through 4 neo dynimium donught magnets with washers sandwiched between them if this would cause a in and out if phase ac dc magnatron type effect. Basically a type of tesla coil but the 3rd spike energy being a spherical lightning bolt effect to eddy current the aluminium head. Look at joe cell horses mouth for the view if a air atom stripped engine by this method. Mel in uk

If you watch joe cell horses mouth video about 1 hour in you will see joe booker making his escort run on atom stripped air then watch joe cell talks 5. Video here he draws in the sand a figure 8 going from North Pole to South Pole through the equator this is the alternator b+ to the exciter of the starter through a neo dynimium donought magnet would it be possible to deregulate an alternator and the ac become a negative ion generator and also a positive ion generator with a chrome aerial attached at 90 degrees to draw in all surrounding atomosphere atoms just like lightning as joe says in 5 video the fields stack from dc to ac as they collide in centre of donought and soak into circular msg rt which us fed to aluminium Also watch brey213 youtuber video called Suzuki joe has refined it to run cars on normal fuel and then by removing positive on air look at the headlight relays on the tight bulkhead/ firewall these richochet the locked loop current

Are you saying the 8 amp draw that you are measuring is what the battery will charge at?

No, he's not saying that. He's showing that you can't use a voltage regulalor rated for 5 amps when the field (rotor) of your alternator is drawing 8 amps and expect the undersized 5 amp regulator to last. He's saying it will fail prematurely, so it's best to get a voltage regulator rated for 10 amps when the field in your alternator is drawing 8 amps. The 10 amp regulator will last a lot longer because it's designed to pass up to 10 amps of current. I know I'm 6 years late but maybe it will help someone else now or in the future.
