In this video i will show you how to re-wire your gm delco remy cs 130 or any newer cs alternator. The wiring in my pickup truck was bad and mostly missing from a body swap and i converted to carb from tbi. I had trouble finding a diagram or any video so i thought i would make a proper video on how i wired it. Now it charges perfectly at 14.5 volts.

Thank you! My alternator has been getting ridiculously hot and had me do confused I bought this car this way for cheap but I'm going to try the light tomorrow. Thanks again for the idea

When you spoke about the wiring madness that is your dashboard, i was glad to hear that. I’m fixing up a 20 year old toyota, and have easily quadrupled my hands on abilities in about 5 months that i have owned it, i’m enjoying learning the different systems, very much. However, even on this twenty year old car, the wiring is insane: alarm system, air bag sensors, electric windows, electronic sensors... As i go along, i’m tearing out all the non-essentials, such as the broken air conditioning. Hope you do well with your rebuilds, i appreciate your ingenuity, cool truck.

Thank you Señor. This was extremely helpful. If you put LED light bulbs in your dash its best if you remove them.

Thanks for showing this. Putting a bbc in a 79 gmc 1 ton. Upgrading to serpentine and found the same style alternator.

Thanks, had mine hooked up just like yours. could not get it to energize, was working when I first installed but after dash work stopped working. Found out that you can't use LED lights for the alternator since there is not enough resistance to energize the field.

How do you wire in the bulb or diode? "L" wire goes to one wire of the bulb, where does it go from the bulb??

I was wondering if the 1960's style ballast resistor from dodge or gm would work, thank you for that, I'm going serpentine with my 1966 buick gs. And I have a parts truck 1997 suburban, so thank you for letting me know that i do not have to buy the ls style delpi alternator. when the suburban is still kinda new. The suburban I got for free but it has a big hole in the side of the engine. So the accessories still work just fine, just not the engine.

I do not understand when you say the otherside of the bulb runs to the ignition,..like where on the ignition switch? There are numerous terminals. Pardon my ignorance.

does the big cable on the back of the alternator go to positive on battery? dont seem to do anything on negavive.

Mine has only "L" and "P" the s and f is not on the connector any idea what to do should i just run a wire from "F" to ignition switch ?

The "F" field to the 'regular" ignition switch. And the "L" ( line?) to ignition switch as opposed to "regular" ignition switch. Did I miss something. Thank you, got it.

L goes to L for Light or Lamp like red Battery indicator light when low voltage

Is it possible to convert a 4 plug to 2 plug alternator plug in on a 2000 honda oddysey by splicing the wires? Pls respond thank you!

im sure they are internally regulated so it must be possible. im not sure the wiring diagram on those you would have to check a wiring diagram. I have worked on a few of those vans 2 of them they thought had a bad alternator or battery, they just have a larger and normal parasitic amp draw because of all the electronics nav screens n what not. they need a real healthy battery

Yeah, there is bolt on conversion for it that attaches to the back.

jesus! I just bought a connector that plugs into the alternator and I dont know how to replace it or where I should cut the wires, so I can install it on my alternator. I need help with switching out the connectors not the whole alternator or the long wire in the back of it.

yes i had a really cheap digital voltmeter from ebay i used that one burned out pretty quick, so i bought a better quality mechanical dial one and it is still working great

You said "F" goes to ignition switch. Would that be ignition switch 2, or switch 3?

any ignition switched power will work, as long as its not constant 12 v

My 94 c1500 chevy 5.7 alternator only has the F (field) wire and the thicker wire to the battery. My alt went bad but wasnt whining, it just started draining my battery. I replaced it 3 times cause each alt was whining loud, I assumed bad alt (bearings) and returned them 3 times before I realized that it stopped whining when I unplugged the F (field) wire from the back while running then starting whining again when replaced back on. Does this mean a bad ground??? can I drive it with this wire unplugged?? Nice truck boss!!!! Hope shes on the road already!!!

I had a truck that did the same thing, it was drawing so hard it made alt whine and would stall the truck if i came to a fast stop, I had a draw or short to ground someware I could never find it, i guess i ndidnt try hard enough lol, so i ran the wire to a toggle switch and back to alt and would turn off at stoplights or when it was idiling and woult turn back on when i got up to speed. Dont forget to turn back on because you will drain your battery. Im not farmillar with that alt all of mine had at least 2 other wires. Maybe that wire needs some resistance or it has resistance that it doesnt like, check that and also maybe add a ground to it

@@JustJackStuff P is to monitor the battery voltage, so connect it to battery positive somewhere. closer to the battery is best. L should be connected to a light bulb to ignition/run, typically the alt/gen light on your dash . connecting to the F will full field the alternator and boil the battery. probably causing a bad battery, alternator, or fire.
