#BadReligion #AgeOfUnreason #Punk
Jay Bentley and Brian Baker of Bad Religion are esteemed vanguards of both punk rock music and the cultural movement it inspired. So, when the duo visited the #AP offices over the summer, we knew we had to get their opinions on the greatest punk records of all time, the definitive songs of Bad Religion's career and which four icons would be carved into the granite of a hypothetical punk rock Mt. Rushmore.
Bentley and Baker weigh in on the greatest problem facing the youth of today (both the generation AND the band...) and crack up as they make fun of each other and reveal the greatest misconceptions people have about their band in this #APTV exclusive.

@@pjslon2218 Generator was the first tape I ever bought after listening in my buddys walkman. "Like a rock, like a planet, Like a fucking atom bomb", then into "Too Much Too Ask" i had to have it. That album was super original in the times of over repeated generic skate-rock. So its a timely and sentimental piece to me I guess LMAO . ..But at 42 years old now I respect anyone with any positive opinion nowadays, especially when it comes to good music by BR . Glad to see you share your opinion as well 🤘

Even those without Brett? I would like to challenge that, No Substance has some songs that are alright, but the album in general is disappointing. Music is art and art is subjective, I prefer Against The Grain over Suffer, not sure about Generator though.

First choice, greatest punk album, The Clash (first album, '77). Hard to put into words how completely that album captured our sense of frustration, anger, and hopelessness given the state of things then, while simultaneously giving us an idea of how we might rise out of it. It changed my life, and for me it laid the path forward. I know it might be difficult for others to grasp how important this album was for us, considering the widely varied backgrounds, cultures, and ages of punks in the present, but as working class youth in those days, it was an epiphany.

Yaay....Gen X's eponymous album is my all time favorite punk album and The Ruts leave most punk bands spinning in the dust. Kinda surprised on the 5 most influential albums no one mentioned Ramones debut...As I read the question is was not YOUR five most influential but rather THE five most influential. (But I guess it was the records that were the most influential to them) But.they bullseyed the Mt Rushmore. A wee bit surprised that Brian chose the first Discharge e.p. since the second, Fight Back, is much better and is where they REALLY hit their stride. (It's a stone cold monster, kids. Check it out, you'll thank me.) BTW wonderful interview. Thanks!!

My grandpa told me sex pistols were posers and were only capitalizing off the punk movement by making over the top music to gain attention and they didn’t actually preach punk rock ideals or even care about the movement or politics of punk and the lower class they were just in it for the money, that’s just the perspective from someone who lived during that era.

I can't think of a band that was better at handling lineup changes than BR. Every time a member changed, it was an upgrade. The only real exception would be when Brooks Wackerman left...as he is a world class drummer. I don't mean that as a knock toward Miller, because he is great and was the perfect guy for the job. But Wackerman isn't a normal drummer that you can replace. He was a way, way over qualified for BR.
