Got the 7s recently in Dark Grey, look and feel great.I have had previous versions, these are the best. I use them for long distance walks on a mix of rough roads and forest and coastal trails. I think this is what there best suited for, they appear to be the shoe of choice for many long distance trails such as the Pacific Crest Trail or Camino route. 😊

Many thanks just what I'm after the Laura Lonepeak 7..... I love my last pair of Lone Peak 4 (Stoneage) .... but love running Snowdon (perfect on rocks & gravel) in those and the zero drop is perfect for the mountains (not the track).... Great review Loyd - and I've been searching hi and low for this review!! Much appreciated!

That’s a proper shoe test. What a fantastic route. Interested to try Altra’s but so many bad reports of them falling apart. So a long term review would be good. Good vid and review though enjoyed it.

the reports are true. i like the topo terraventure. altras (the canvas ones) started ripping themselves to shreds within a month. now after about a year of wearing them as not my main shoe but a comfort pick because they look so ratty. im a shoe person, having my shoes fall apart so early feels real bad.

Phew. I was almost not going to watch this review of my favourite trail (dry) shoe, as I know some of your reviews of Altra in the past have been a bit marmite. I love the 6 and didn’t think from other reviews the 7 was a good upgrade, but if grip and drainage are still good then sounds good. AND great to hear Steve is at the ARC! Looking forward to dot watching this weekend 😊

Even though Topo are my favorite shoe, Altra are my #2. They are the ONLY shoe that when my plantar fasciitis is hurting, I just put them on, stand up and feel NO pain at all.Previous Lone Peak didn't work for my feet. What worked for me was Torin 4.5 PLUSH and the pair of Olympus 5 GTX that I got yesterday at REI in the Garage Sale. the customer got the wrong size then sent them back. They are Brand Freaken NEW. The price was reduced to $100.00 and I already had a $15.00 REI coupon. They costed me $85.00 for a $200.00 shoe and they help my foot problems immensely Thanks for the video my Running Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

I enjoy a zero drop and do like an Altra but sadly they just refuse to make a shoe with much grip these days... RIP MT King Would have liked to try one for something like Arc but don't think there is enough grip I feel this shoe competes really well with the INOV8 Trailfly 270 (or whatever its called these days - Terra Ultra 270). I think I would prefer the INOV8

I did a 6 miler easy run to test these out today. They grip the dirt well and feel really comfortable. I can’t say they’re better than the 6’s but I can say they’re at least as good. The heel is more padded. Otherwise they felt the same.
@brewlovinrunner
@brewlovinrunner Жыл бұрын
Update: They’re starting to feel flat and the extra padding in the heel causes some pressure points for me. Otherwise they’re not bad. I wish Altra would have just taken the 6’s and put the new outsole on it…or vibram.

Fab video - what an amazing day you had for that test run!!! I remember going into your shop years ago, Loyd, and you being extremely sniffy about Altra! Thanks Jacob, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and it sure was a lovely day! The durability on some of their models is a bit suspect but the Lone Peak has always been a pretty solid shoe 👍 It will be interesting to see how the these hold up but it looks like it's well put together. All of my day to day shoes and boots are minimalist. I’m also a mid to forefoot striker. I love the lone peak 6 for almost all surfaces. I also find my feet keep in place in the shoes, so I can confidently run over uneven ground and enjoy running without thinking too hard about it. Fair comment about the toe box protection.

How wonderful with a bit of snow. Brilliant My last Astra was the Lone Peak 3 and the Olympus 4. The 3 was actually a very good shoe, the first 80-100 km. An then the shoe just totally collapsed and fell apart. Midsole hard as a wooden plank and the shoe itself just fell apart. Haven't tried the model since. The Olympus 4 was a big disappointment. Narrow and not at all comfy or soft in the midsole. Traction is usually good in the Altras, sounds like the case here too. Thanks for review Loyd. Maybe Altra is worth testing again for me?

Wow, that’s great. It looks like they really improved it because I have a lot of problems with saucony on wet rock and the old loan peaks like the model even just before that was just as bad maybe even worse so that’s great brain improvement. Think that’s the big test for me is the wet rock I can get through wet rock I can get through anything, but if you gotta climb, a big rock ledge, or Steve rock decent rocks that your shoes are on, the only thing I didn’t care for Exodus or on a paragraph I don’t like the rubber I know a long time ago. I just thought I’d mention that in case somebody’s reading it that it must be really improved.

Thnx for review. Give it a month and they will have lost about 2mm of tread. Had the last 4 versions and switched to Topo now with vibram. Not buying Altra again until they give it vibram. Plus even with the rock plate you can still feels rocks... Not sure if that's the same in the V7. The Topo pursuit has no rock plate but far better protection. I think my Altra days are over, unless I do a thru-hike. Cheers. Great channel.

Nice review Loyd. I too didn't get on with the MB's because of that heel slip mostly but have always liked as opposed to loved the Lone Peak. One thing I would say that doesn't work too well for me with this shoe is that I have quite narrow feet (as I thought you did too going by past reviews) so have found that the lateral movement on say cambered trails etc isn't great and I can feel my foot moving about like a good'n. Apart from that though i would agree that the grip and general feel and ride is nice.

Tried a pair of the Altra Olympus at the NEC (never tried Altra before) and I found when I ran in them, my feet seemed to slap the floor. Don't think it was due to the zero drop, but possibly more of the shape of the shoe. However, very comfortable. Use to Hoka, but may give them a go?

Did I miss this, but how is the drainage? There's been a lot of talk about dropping the drainage ports from the LP7, even though the repositioned and designing ones on the lp6 were a big talking point by altra. It also looks very different in shape, so to hear you find them fit well, when you normally seem to get on well with the (way too tight for me) hokas is a bit worrying given the reason altra has been successful in the past was a moderately wide toebox as standard. Maybe the new brand owners are changing direction, which would suck so much given how many people wouldn't run in anything but a lone peak...
@Run4Adventure
@Run4Adventure Жыл бұрын
I did mention in the video that they seemed to drain well and it was very wet out there on the run 👍 The Lone Peak 7 has still got good width in the toe box, I'm pretty Altra will never change that.
