This is an update of the new Altra Lone Peak All-WTR Mid trail runners that I use for Thru-hiking. I have now put over 200 miles of use on them after walking the Coast to Coast and wanted to make a follow-up video where I compared the Altra Lone Peak All-WTR to the original Altra Lone Peak 4.0 Mid.
They performed very well, the change I noticed the most is the new midsole which has fantastic cushioning, going over hard rocks in the Lake District was a breeze and I had no foot pain after 12 days of hiking.

Hello, this is currently my most popular video. I have been wearing Altra for 4 years now exclusively and this pair I have used for long distance hiking. They are good but overall Altras last about 500 miles tops. I use Altra Torins for road running. Altra Olympus 5 GTX mid? I m trying one on and there is Smth digs into my ankle and it s still there after few km walking in them ..sending back..I had high hopes for this shoes..

I bought mine for snowy conditions and am very pleased. IMO Altras are the best. I just bought my seventh pair of Altra shoes. I live in the US and am envious of all the great trails you have in the UK. I have watched several videos on the Wainwright Trail. Such beautiful walks through rich history. It is very inspiring.

I Have 2 pair of the 4's love them best hiking mid I ever owned , simply love them ... so comfortable, but its getting time to for a new pair ... thank you so much for the video, good to hear they even got better!!

Hope you do well with them, they developed a hole where they bend quite quickly so not sure I’d replace them.

Mine lasted ~50km before they started to leak were the shoe bends. They still dry relatively quickly compared to gore-tex shoes and stay fresh. But even a tiny amount of water in the winter time is sure to make them feel _cold_. Otherwise a great shoe!

@@DJVOutdoors yeah, I asked Altra about it and they said it’s rare which according to customer reviews isn’t quite so. Pity! I love the shoes still. I hope they’ll release an improved version some day.

@@k______________________ not sure it’s rare! Apart from that they are so comfortable it’s frustrating because I looked at getting something else from Altra but these all weathers are the only option for me as I want the ankle support. Altra released a hiking boot a while back but looks like they discontinued it as was going to get them.

I bought these to try zero drop for back issues. I hope I'm a lucky one. Hokas were awesome for a while but now the heel is making it worse.

Hopefully you’ll get on with Altra. I had a tumour in my back year and a half ago. Hope your back issues sort themselves out. The sole is much improved on these altras vs the lone peak 4.0 mids.

Just picked up a pair as SportShoes have them half price at the moment. Mine started to de laminate on one of the welded seams after 7km of hiking, so just sent them back for an exchange. Hopefully I just go unlucky, yours seem to have fared much better.

I’ve got a second pair. The fronts wore off but I got sent another pair. They are very good, Altra have a new updated version out now

@@DJVOutdoors yeah I was tempted with the newer version, do you think they are more durable? My first pair of Altra's so seemed a good deal to try. I did get on with them. I've used only barefoot footwear for the last 10 years but struggle on long distance hikes with a heavy pack in barefoot.

Yes they did seem more durable and the Altra person said they improved the sole again. I’ll probably get them next year.

Hi. I love this boot & a big Altra fan, but I’ve now had 2 pairs as they both leaked in the toe box straight off the shelf. Altra said to return them to my supplier so I have but now what? I’m curious if you bought yours direct from Altra & therefore a different batch? The response from Altra to me was “I'm really sorry to hear that you've experienced leaking issues with two pairs of the All Weathers. This definitely sounds like an unfortunate production defect and I'd advise you to send them back to Sportshoes as you did with the first pair. The LP All Weather does typically offer really good resistance to wet conditions” Cheers

Hi Paul, sorry to hear that. I got mine from Northern Runner I’ve not had any leaking with them but think one other person commented they did. I doubt very much I’ll get another pair as it seems to be a widespread issue as others have had the same problem.

Seems to be very good, I wore them in hot weather last summer and they seemed to breathe well.

I am really thinking about getting these for the Spine Race in January, do you know if they have drain holes and how are they in the mud?

Don’t think they have drain holes but could be worth asking Altra. They perform well in all terrain including mud

thanks bud, I love ultra too. I need a really waterproof shoe like this for dog walking in muddy with puddles splashing around a bit, and the rain would this be the Altra pair for me? ( great shoe that looks good in all settings. ) your advice please thanks. Im a barefoot guy that needs waterproof warm zero drop with big box? thats why I love altra..

Yes these are the updated ones from the previous model. They have a much improved midsole and are fully ok for what you intend to use them for.

@@sebastown I use torins for road running. Yes a lot different much more cushioning first of all and also seem to be a wider fit the lone peaks. The only issue with Altras is they wear out quite quickly on the lugs as well as the material. I always goes half a size up which has worked out well.

I’d put some ice grips on the bottom definitely as they are a bit slippy sometimes

@@DJVOutdoors Is the water resistance enough to keep light snow out? I don't plan on plunging through 2FT of Maine snow, but I bet there's a few inches.

@@shanemitchellspencer I get mine from a place called northern runner here in uk check out reviews on their website. They are brilliant really comfortable I couple them up with some sealskinz waterproof socks just as a last line of defence but they seem pretty watertight

I’d recommend the upgraded versions of these that have recently been released. I wouldn’t say they are 100% waterproof but pretty much especially if you get a pair of sealskinz waterproof socks. The Olympus 5 from Altra hiking boots have a goretex membrane and so are waterproof. Check out northern runner in the UK who sell them and who I buy them from. Altra are a wide fit with a wide toebox area.

@@DJVOutdoors can you give me any suggestion about pour waterproof barefoot hiking boot? i have pretty wide feet, and plan to hike Nepal next December January....winter time it was pretty cold in Himalaya. Last two winter when i travel there i RENT winter boots from there, but Normal hiking boot is extremely heavy and Narrow toe box and extremely high cousion. i hike with one of the boot with 18 days, those are heavy. can you suggest me any lightweight barefoot waterproof boots?

@@DJVOutdoors goretex isn't waterproof in the long run after 3000+km trip, it gets wet FAST. It's just water resistant.
