Spa Valley Railway | Return to Eridge! Opening Weekend Gala with 5521 & 37254 - Sat 2nd April 2011

My video from the Opening Weekend of the Spa Valley Railway's extention to Eridge. After an opening day on Friday 25th March regular services have now commenced from Tunbridge Wells West to Eridge. The final mile into Eridge from Birchden Junction runs alongside East Croydon to Uckfield Main Line with the Spa Valley Railway using the 'Down' line and Southern Railway using the 'Up' line.
Trains were 'top and tailed' by Class 37 no.37254 and Small Prairie no.5521. We first see the 13.40 arrival at Eridge with the 37 leading followed by 5521 leading the 14.10 departure. Next is 15.15 arrival at Eridge is seen passing Forge Farm crossing between Birchden Junction and Eridge and finally the 15.25 departure from the same location.

Nice, good quality video. Ideally this railway (Oxted to Uckfield) should still be a double track mainline, running through to Lewes. As this seems to be completely unlikely in the real world, its really great to see the hard work put in by the people of The Spa Valley Railway, come to fruition in reaching this point. Congratulations to you all and I look forward to visiting this interesting looking railway in the near future.

@ba14eagle Thanks for the comment, as you say it should be but I can't see it happening any time soon! I am looking forward to making return visits to the line to see all the progress they are making.

I can't really answer either of your questions, I just visit from time to time. However at a guess I would say it must be due to signaling that has to happen (?). I know that no signals are commisioned yet. As for High Rocks I think the pub built the station for the Spa Valley so perhaps it is due to that?

when you first see them approaching they look as if they have returned to the mainline.
