When I was kid, my record player had 45, 33 and a third, and 78. They were settings that determined how fast the record played. We still have a strand of aluminum tinsel that hung on my grandparents tree. It's old an threadbare and we don't put it on the tree anymore, but we still have it. Both the museum and the Mantique store were awesome. Also, now that you've seen a white squirrel in the wild, maybe you'll see a Sasquatch as well .

Ya beat me to it. Ha. Yeah records from before the 1950s were mostly 78rpm 10 inch records that had one song on each side. (although there were some larger records mostly for classical music and even tiny novelty ones.) starting in the 1950s longer playing micro groove formats became popular, 7 inch 45s are usually singles and 33rpm 12 inch records are usually full length albums. Fun fact, the word “album” was adopted from the 78 era when you’d literally have to have a book with sleeves holding several records to get that much music grouped together (like a photo album).

We had an older turntable that had a 16 rpm speed. I put my Chipmunks 33 album on it and heard the actual voices of the men singing! I was a kid and loved that.
@jimcampbell
@jimcampbell 7 ай бұрын
@karen4you oh yeah! that speed wasnt used much, but i think maybe for some spoken word records. educational and informational stuff.. language learning etc. The sound quality would not be very good at low speeds but it works for just talking. That's funny about the chipmunks! haha

I love this! I currently have my aluminum Christmas tree up in our living room. It was my great-grandmother’s in the 60s, and when she died, my grandpa put it up every year until he passed in 2017, and now it belongs to me. It’s a little scraggly but considering what all it’s been through, it looks pretty good.

My grandma put up her aluminum Christmas tree with the color wheel for years with the wrapped chocolate ornaments. Such a sweet memory of that tree in the corner of her living room. She had floor to ceiling paned windows on both sides..It was beautiful! Awe I miss her..

I remember working in a separate lot at the airport in Pensacola Florida. I would see a white squirrel, but the squirrel might be somebody's pet or used to be. He would come up to my booth door and beg for food. That was years ago, though.

i wholeheartedly agree. Last time I went there I didn't want to leave. Think about how many centuries people have been using glass and all the things it is used for, even works of art. You need a massive museum to display it all.

Excellent video!!! Took me back to the 1960's when we grew up in Inkster, Michigan, which us a small suburb of Detroit!!! We had the quintessential aluminum Christmas Tree with the 4 Coloured Colour Wheel of red, yellow, blue, n green. It was spectacular especially at night sitting in the living room with only the colour wheel on shining magnificently over the glittering aluminum Christmas 🎁🎄 Tree that we grew up with till age 12 in 1969!!! We still have projector slides of my brother Ken, RIP, my Sisters Linda n Wendy n myself in our yearly new Christmas outfit, coat, matching shoes, hat, purses, gloves, the windowpane stockings we wore that were the big fashion item at the time. The tree always had shiny silk round Christmas ornaments in one solid colour, different each year, green, blue, red, gold, silver n a super modern Tree Star Topper that spiked right up the middle of the main tree pole!!! What FANTASTIC memories you have inspired this Saturday, December 16, 2023, and I REALLY needed inspiration!!! Thank you once again for making my day, Jacob and Jenn!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours and Happy New Year too!!!🎁🎄🙏🧑‍🎄💎❄️☃️😇🥂🍾🏙️🌆🌃🎊🎋🎉🎄

I live just outside Philadelphia but have never seen a white squirrel however I have seen occasionally😊 an all black squirrel. Thanks for showing the aluminum Christmas trees. My aunt had one with the color wheel. By the way the reason for the color wheel was because they did not want you to put regular Christmas tree lights on the trees. I guess because the old bulbs ran so hot they were afraid the bulbs would damage the light weight branches. Also if the tree was made of true aluminum it could conduct an electrical charge If an open wire came into contact with it. As for records the one on the tree were 45’s so called because they spun at 45 revolutions per minute. They usually only had one song on each side. The other older records ran at 78 RPM and usually were about 10 inches in size, later and even now most long play records run at 33 and a third RPM. THEY ARE USUALLY 12 inches in size. There were also special or promo records that could be an odd size but usually played at either 45 Rpm or 33 and a third. There was also one odd ball record that ran at 16 RPM. Those were usual spoken word records used for educational purposes.

All speeds are measured in Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). There is 78 RPM (the first records made) (10" diameter), 45 RPM (7" diameter), 33⅓ RPM (12" diameter) and 16 RPM (9" diameter). 16 RPM was too slow a speed for High Fidelity (HiFi) sound, a precursor to stereo sound so it hasn't been used in decades.

There are 3 sizes of records, 33, 45, 78. I had an antique recird player that only played the original first size of 78, n had a small collection of 78" records. They are very thick n have a different feel to them compared to 33's n 45's are the small ones that fit on mist juke boxes and on the suitcase recird players that were popular in the 1950's n 1960's. I also had what was called a "Close N Play" that was a small suitcase record player that would automatically activate n begin to play every time you put the record on and just closed the lid.

Wow! What throwback to my childhood!!! There were many families in my neighborhood who celebrated Christmas with an aluminum tree! Indeed the color wheel was the way to bring illumination to the tree, because lights strands of those days only consisted of C7 size bulbs and they were not recommended for aluminum trees due fire potential from bulb geat and electrical arching ⛔️⚡️! Vinyl records in the mid 20th century were made in 3 size/RPM playback speeds: 78 (fastest), 45 (midrange) & 33 1/3 long playing albums. Record players of the era had a playback speed switch to manually select the playback speed. Another popular feature to record players was the automatic stack of same speed records. A completely mechanical function provided audiophiles to play multiple records by loading them into the player’s spindle, above the turntable and the player would detect the stack records and cycle through each record and play the track(s). The mechanical function would automatically detect the position of the needle arm being near the spindle and that would cause the player to lift & retract needle arm and release the next record to drop onto the turntable and move the needle arm to the start position on the record. These were engineered mechanical devices of the era and provided the method for recording industry to grow and prosper. OMG! My parents had the same brand box of ornaments! 9:45 seeing it gives me joy 🥹 and melancholy 😔 because this year I’ve lost several beloved family members 🌻😭.
