I've got a job to get out and it involves Milling 6061 T6 Aluminum. This particular part is 16 inches long and we'll cover accuracy tor long work. Slotting, profiling, and indicating the work is covered. We'll find the edges of the work, use the machine dials to accurately move the table, and use a carbide end mill with kerosene to make a beautiful final finish.
I'm using a Tree Milling machine, specifically the 2UVRC.
Let's make some serious chips together!

I am a retired Woodworker some of my hobbies are Automobile restorations ,boating , and upholstery I’ve had many Machinists and Tool and Die members in my family so I’ve always had a interest in Metalworking I found your video today because I’m thinking about machining Aluminum trim parts with a high polish for a project I’m doing btw I enjoy doing almost everything I can do on my own as opposed to contracting it or buying it somewhere I also enjoyed your narration and attention to detail like most Machinists I know

fascinating work. I found it interesting to note how similar a number of your registration steps are to the gunnery I used to do on howitzers :).

You did not need a carbide end mill for this aluminum job, a standard 2 flute end mill would be preferable (at the reasonable rpm your using). Its very uncommon to use carbide on aluminum, unless the job requires a larger diameter face mill that that has carbide inserts, or if the machine being used is high speed cnc. When I used a vice setup similar to yours with parts that extended beyond the vice, I would at times use a block under each end of the part to provide a solid z axes location and support, instead of locating along the extended vice jaws. For thinner walls, a taller vice jaw would be preferable so the wall would have support while cutting, or the part could be placed further down into vice. - Retired aircraft machinist/mill operator

I guess those soft jaws you machined bowed. I have just had this problem with fresh 6061 that is stamped as Tooling Plate. I just machined a couple of 16" long parts similar to yours and used 2 Kurt vises. Unfortunately, even though they are the same model vise they are different in heights by about .004" so I had to be careful indicating the work.

Can this be used to make precision datum reference edge when installing linear guide rails? Would like to know how I can make precision datum reference edge on aluminum plates so I can install precision linear guide rails.

Very nice video sir, can you please provide a link to high helix tool? I like how you can use all its height in cutting.

Here's a link to Niagra. They are HSS, but they carry carbide as well. They have a nice selection. You can watch eBay as well. I wish you the best! www.niagaracutter.com/high-speed-steel/2-3-flute-high-helix-for-aluminum/a208-2-flute

Why are you not using any cutting fluids? Not questioning your skills, I just want to know as an amateur.

Whoever told you that you can't use mist cooling on carbide is an idiot. You absolutely can. What you should avoid is shock cooling. So if you start a cut without cooling, either finish without, or stop and let the cutter cool down before turning on mist or flood cooling.
