Aluminum TIG welding dog box and decoy rack

In this episode, we take some 1/8" aluminum diamond plate and fabricate and TIG weld a custom dog box and decoy rack. The iron worker was key in this episode, using both the shear and the break to build the main structure. acetone feller i like to use it to clean the work piece before i zap on aluminum especially. just came across the channel super cool you have your boy out their learning a trade. my oldest is nine he helps me out too.

I had no idea there where so many options for the iron worker. The shop I work at has the Scotsman iron worker. We are currently going to be coping for railings , that attachment looks pretty handy. Thank' for the info.👍

I actually did put a hole in the door for air before it left for powder coat. I’ll try to post a picture.

Rule of thumb is never strap or tie down anything with a heartbeat to an airboat. Airboats sink and they sink faster than you can react or let the dog out of a box. Hope that’s never the case. Nice build.

Lots of good stuff here. How to measure when breaking metal your input on how you deal with customers. No doubt this guy knows you can’t work for free. I was thinking did you clean the metal with acetone? I think that rivet gun is a super cool tool.

No vent holes for the dog?

I actually cut a 1-1/4” hole with a hole saw to stick your finger in to help open the door/ventilation. There is also a 1” gap around the bottom because of the ribs in the bottom of the boat.

There was ventilation between the ribs on the floor of the boat. I also put a hole on the door for both ventilation as well as somewhere to grab the door and open it. That was done before it went to powder coat.
