Good to see a stolly on the water - what an iconic military vehicle of the period.

I’m never quite sure what to say about it, except that for amphibious truck made from parts that Alvin already had from the tank thing it is flippin’ brilliant :o)

Det hade varit roligt om Kungälv hade fått vara värd för en amfibieträff :-)

I love watching these trucks and D.U.K.Ws transition to and from the water.

I agree we had to prepare for water use , this was making sure all plugs underneath were in place then deploy the duck board then slowly enter the water and in gear to drive all the wheels just you hit a sand bank, lastly the bilge pump for getting rid of any water. I was in the artillery we had these to support the guns with ammunition.

väldigt kul o se sitt gamla amfibie bygge igen o den ser ju lika fin ut som när jag renoverade den..... blev glad att se att den fortfarande är vid liv....

Only in choppy water and beach landings, not so much on rivers

Think my dad took a picture of this one stuck in a big hole on his trip to Sweden in the late 90s.

Looks like you've got lino or something on the load floor? Wondering how easy it is to check for water coming in when you've got that down

What would you rather have. That or an Amphicar?
@ph11p35408 жыл бұрын
It floats but I would hate to be on this if the river is flooding up or fast faster than 3 kph.
@SM-dt1pr3 жыл бұрын
What are they like to sail fully loaded?
@shaunsheep82522 жыл бұрын
S Moore, the standard load was 5 tonnes (non crane version) in water officially we could only carry 3 tonnes. It will still swim and still have freeboard with 5 tonnes, but the men at the top decided it safer to reduce the load if swimming
@neilhellings252510 ай бұрын
It was built to cross the fast flowing rivers of West Germany - 'stollies' crossed them in full flood with no issues apart from climbing the banks to get out after a Sqn of fully loaded ones had gone before you😂

Front side windows ,rear plate with tow hitch much larger on mk1 .
@shaunsheep82522 жыл бұрын
And a lot more improvements on the mk2 other than what you stated there. The last batch of mk2’s we unofficially named mk2.5 because they have more improvements over the early ones (the later mk2 had side windows with no bolts.
@markellis781910 ай бұрын
@@shaunsheep8252 Think you're a little confused there. No real difference between the 1966 and 1971 FV622. Whilst Alvis made most of the cabs - with the bolts around the windows, a company across the road called Motor Panels made the cabs without the bolts around the windows. That's the cabs that rust the quickest.

I think this vehicle rides to low on the water compared with a ww2 DUKW.
@safecrackernr14 жыл бұрын
Thats right, the DUKW floats more like a boat. Its much bigger and still about 4000 kg lighter.
@markellis781910 ай бұрын
carries 5 tons in water, compared to the DUKW being half that
