I got a new monitor a few months ago and something felt... off. Spent ages tweaking settings, seaching what others were recommending, etc. and just gave up. Used sRGB, job done. think that's what I did on my old monitor too, it just looks so much better than everything being cranked too hard

Found myself watching this again. You had proprietary MBR settings mixed in with describing overdrive which are two differnt things. Adaptive sync does not match frame rate to monitor refresh, it displays rendered frames as they come which could be any value in the VRR range which is usually 48Hz to max refresh. Vstnc locks to native monitor refresh, not VRR. USER is also an alternative to P3 for vibrancy. Things can get confusing for viewers when you only use one monitors' OSD regrence for all monitors. I dont have gamma or 6500K monitor settings for example on my MSI monitor.

To me, if you are using your Windows 11 to HDR ON and you want the best HDR output, you should actually set brightness to 100, this sound insane and yes it is at beginning setup but later on you should change the Windows HDR setting of SDR content brightness by lowing down to eye level smoother comfort zone. I did this by changing the value to 11 for my Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 and value to 17 for my Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, default value of SDR content brightness is 40. Doing so you get the best output which not hurting your eye and HDR output can maximize the nits when needed as well. I know many people did not ever check the SDR content brightness in Windows HDR setting, give it a try and you will notice this setting is very important for monitor set Windows to HDR ON. This setting is not applicable if you don't have HDR monitor or you never set HDR ON. But if your monitor is having HDR feature, you should set HDR to ON if you also want all your streaming content manage to playback in HDR.

Gsync (VRR) doesn't work outside max refresh. You still have to manually cap fps (~5fps) below max refresh. For 165Hz I cap at 160fps minimum. For even frame times and lower latency, cap at a framerate your GPU can maintain at all times. It is still possible to get tearing with Gsync on. At that point you also enable Vsync. In-game settings have lowest latency, but don't use caps that exactly match your monitors max refresh. ie: Fortnite preset options should be avoided and 3rd party capper should be used. ie: RTSS or NVCPL. Setup should start with... 1. Resolution/refresh 2. Gsync on 3. Overdrive (tested in-game or UFO) 4. Colours (rtings or elsewhere) 5. Update firmware if available 6. The rest....

Thanks for the great video. I just bought the GM34-CWQ (34 inches ultrawide 144Hz curved VA panel), using it with a Macbook Air M1 2020, and I am quite disappointed. The texts look too sharp or too blurry, the colors are not vibrant. The framerate is great but with too many constraints. If you have a basic monitor DON'T just set sRGB and call it a day thinking you have the most accurate colour setting. I've got some cheap Chinese monitor and the sRGB setting has extreme red bleed, it's much better to use the RGB control and set a custom colour profile that tries to get close to what images look like on your phone for instance, or a more accurate monitor if you have one. You can get additional RGB control from monitor calibration in Windows (Colour Management in the Control Panel) if your monitor tends to favour a colour no matter what settings you use on the monitor itself. For instance this cheap Chinese monitor gives everything a sickly yellow tinge if just use the monitor to adjust RGB balance, I need to use additional calibration in Windows to achieve neutral whites and grays.

I have had amazing HDR experiences on Desktop. High-end VA or Oled is the only way you are going to get it though. IPS or lower VA panels will not give you the premium experience you want. Destiny 2 (still probably the best pound for pound as they use contrast like no other game) and most Sony Studio games (Spider-Man, Horizon, GOW, Days Gone) are some of the best HDR experiences on PC right now.

@@Wusyaname_ Yeah, not to say you can't get a decent experience on IPS, but a VA panel with Mini-LED or maybe Micro if we ever see that is still going to provide a superior contrast which is a must for HDR content. I wished my UPERFECT 15.6" Portable 4K OLED monitor had support for 4K at 120Hz, but nope. Mine can only do 60Hz. :( I once had a Samsung 43" QN90B 4K TV, but even if I tried 120Hz, I did not like the blooming that I get with that TV. Ugh... Can't stand the blooming. But once I go with OLED, who cares about 120Hz anyway? It's not like I can tell a difference due to my visual impairment and I do not play competitive games. I play games such as Portal 2, Ni No Kuni, Final Fantasy XII, and even not-well-known games such as Flux Caves, a realistically-looking 3D puzzle game that I enjoyed a lot. And even The Talos Principle. I once tried playing Quake II RTX which I enjoyed, but I'm not a good FPS gamer, let's just put it that way... I mean, it's a fun game, but I died a few times even in easy difficulty mode. It always comes down to skills and reaction time in addition to whether I can tell a difference between 60Hz and 120Hz or not... I mean, once I go with OLED, I would be much more happy sticking with 60Hz anyway. And oh yes, my UPERFECT 15.6" 4K OLED monitor is attached to my VIVO VESA mount adapter for tablets and portable monitor, which then gets attached to my Mount-It Single Monitor Arm Desk Mount. My 15.6" OLED monitor is very close to me and I love it a lot. Much easier for me to see compared to my 43" TV and even a 32" LG 4K monitor, although I used a 43" TV just for movies and TV shows in addition to PC usage. My 15.6" is perfect for my visual impairment due to field of view. Ever try to see the compass in the minimap in Final Fantasy XV? I cannot see the compass in the minimap even in a 32" 1080P or 4K monitor. That's because the gaming industry as a whole don't care about people with vision loss. With a 15.6" monitor, the compass is much easier for me to see because it's well within a field of view. The minimaps in Ni No Kuni and Final Fantasy XII is much easier to read compared to Final Fantasy XV. Maybe one day UPERFECT will come up with a new 4K at 120Hz monitor for gamers. Once I go with OLED, I will never go back to LCD. Even MiniLED is still LCD. :)

Dear lord, is there some bad advice in this video. "Backlighting" monitors or any screens with over the top RGB effects absolutely destroy your eyes' and brain's perception of colour and contrast, ruining the picture quality in practical terms. The only way to correctly do what is called "bias lighting" is with pure white 6500k against a white wall and even so at a proper brightness level equivalent to roughly 10% of your screen's maximum brightness in nits. Don't even get me started on absolutely trashing any sort of sensible image quality with gimmicks like "Black Boost", etc. It's one thing to let people know what is scientifically correct or incorrect and then let them decide for themselves if they prefer their screens to be well calibrated or not on purpose. It's another totally different ball game flat out giving terrible advice as "the thing to do when you get a monitor". For actual image quality advice, you'd do well to spend some time browsing HDTVtest and Rtings instead of tech youtubers.

One arm length away from the monitor? Dude you just entirely negated to talk about the brightness and size of the monitor changes this massively😂 if you're gonna talk about posture at all then you should know that angling your neck down a little is far better then leaning back to bring you more in line with your monitor. You also entirely forgot about the part of where your desk needs to be below your elbow. If you're gonna send this information to so many people at least send the right information

Why does this channel consistently give bad advice? For example the ambient light section here, was completely made up and poor advice. Turn it off. It does nothing good.
