I know absolutely no one will see this, but those issues with the screen going purple after the drop is actually not damage to the screen it is damage to the logic board, which I know because after it was dropped it no longer recognize the Sim card

my iphone was in a 15 ft deep pond for 5 and a half hours after an unfortunate fishing accident, ( i casted out and fell out of my jacket pocket ) but i took it home and put it in rice bag and 30 minutes later it came on, but wouldnt hold charge so i took the battery out and put it back in and now it works perfectly, using it today (:

I have a black 4S and I swear its indestructible! I dropped it face down on tile nothing, sprayed it with a garden hose nothing, left it in a hot car in Tucson, nothing! What did crack the screen was I tripped and fell on something and landed on my phone. It was in my pocket.

For the wildcard, you should've done a test in both the washer and dryer. Sometimes, people forget their iPhones are in their pockets, and don't even care about them until they've realized they've been in the washer and dryer.

I remember one time I left my iPhone 4s in the sun in the middle of summer and it had a temperature warning. It was also extremely hot to the touch.

guys there is no iphone battery can hold 3 days so you can't consider it not surviving in the last test of the washing machine so you need to try charging it first and then try to turn on on see if it survives or not

And almost all of these tests are really unfair since you test stuff.. and then test something else... how do I know if my iPhone will survive in the oven when you freeze it down with the same iPhone? If one of these scenearios would happen it probably wouldn't happen after something else..

The purple line means that the screen connector has been damaged. It may work again after reseating (as suggests the sporadic "blue screen of death"), but it may as well be simply dead.

Refrigerating batteries is a sure fire way to have them go to sleep. When I work outside in the cold, I have special heaters for my photographic batteries to keep them nice and warm and therefore, working.

I always put my iPhone 4S in a case you should put that through the test!!!

That purple line happened to mine and all I had to do to fix it was hold the power and home button for 20 seconds. and then turn it back on.

When you put it in a dry bag for three days did you plug it up at any time to see if it had power to turn back on?

lithium ion batteries do not get damaged from cold temperatures, their capacity simply reduces significantly and discharges slower when cold, hence the reason why the phone turned off, because it had false readings it was on low power and simply turned off. consider the battery capacity to reduce from ~97% to ~35% and a discharge rate of ~96% to ~15% when cold. in simple, when the battery is cooled below -10 C, it fails to "supply" enough "power" fast enough that the phone cannot operate.

For those people who are complaining about the battery and the freezer: Batteries do not work in cold temputures. Like cars do not start in below freezing, as the battery is too cold

A battery discharges faster in the cold. It's physics, not a new, mysterious thing :D

My iphone 4 is pretty durable, first day of having it, it slipped out my pocket and went on a roller coaster water ride, security found it and turned it on whilst wet, so I can prove it was mine... It didn't work for a week, left it in rice, sort of worked almost all buttons were broken, Charged it on a Speaker dock thing and that somehow fixed it completely. It has been dropped many many times these years, and has been thrown around etc, no dents or cracks. Only damage was when I scraped it accidentally on my skateboard grip, but even that isn't even a major scratch. I don't even use a case or screen protector. The phone is just laggy and crashes on apps, it used to overheat, but not really anymore.
