Tbh having them on a smaller side stage with all of #trancefamily in attendance in full force is better than the mainstage where half the audience wouldn't appreciate the talent before them.

Anyway, yes, EDM actually refers to all electronic dance genres, but it has become so affiliated with the mainstream genres, that fans and even producers and DJs of the more underground genres like techno, proper house, DnB, harddance and even trance, don't want to be labeled as EDM.

+David Garnica in the technical sense Sager153 is right. EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music and trance is a sub-genre of EDM. Now there is a lot of confusion with this term because many Americans see EDM also as a sub genre and a a style of electronic music. But in technicality trance, house, drum n base, breaks, Hardstyle, Techno, dubstep, trap and many others are part of EDM. Again no hate, just being ocd.

+sager153 you are correct. Lots of influence from the main genres into what has become the EDM machine. But that's all it is. Emotionless, cookie cutter, commercial.
