I know it sounds harsh, but if you can't even afford a decent cage, don't have an animal, please. People have to think further and consider whether they can afford a vet, which costs many times more than a cage and toys. I have 3 guinea pigs and spent 150 euros at the vet last month for ear fungus and eye injury (they are fine now :) ). Last year one of the guinea pigs injured her eye. She is blind and now fine, but if she needed surgery they would have started from 1000 euros! Started! So please have that in mind, that rodents are cheap to buy, but their costs of care can be immense!

You find too often parents buy their kids Guinea pigs without researching first on all their care needs and kids loose interest and a lot of piggies end up in shelters your video was spot on and you need to tell people requirements etc I’m glad you made this video 🎉

A lot of these were even too small for a hedgehog let alone multiple Guinea pigs. Being a parent of a 13 year old I did a ton of research before agreeing to get our hedgie & I built a c&c grid cage a year ago before we brought the first one home. Just upgraded them to a Midwest critter nation with fleece & I’m so excited. I just can’t comprehend not wanting to give them the best chance possible & also to take the opportunity to educate your children about the importance of proper animal care. Thank you for doing this,I truly hope they listen & that the parents do what’s best.

Its so interesting that many people use and recommend fleece. In Sweden its illegal to only have fleece in the cage because its so unnatural for guinea pigs

How do people get animals without doing research? I've never understood what is the point in that when u don't even know how to take care of them.

100% agree that kids should not have pets if they cant look after them and the parents dont want to pay for the cage or toys etc, i am a 14 year old but my parents are amazing and have brought me a big cage great size for 2 guinea pigs.

Ive noticed that so many of the Guinea Pig adoption listings in my area say something like “my kid just isn’t interested anymore” and it’s so sad. I’m an adult now but I got my first Guinea pigs when I was a kid and I was very lucky that my parents did it right. Id wanted them for about 2 years before we got them and my mum bought me a book on how to care for them and I read it cover to cover so many times. My mum did her research and found a reputable breeder and got the right size cage. All this contributed to me recognising at that young age that they aren’t a toy or phase and that I’d have to care for them for 5-8 years, and I did very well. A child can have all the knowledge and love for their pets but it comes down to the parents to ensure that they have the best care possible

i agree with the children having animals part !! i’m 17 and have a hammy named leo and he’s lived for over 2 years and i’ve taken care of him. when i was about 13 i had a lot of hamsters and they all passed within a couple months and it’s sad ! but i now understand proper hammy care and hope Leo lives a long full happy life ❤️❤️.

Tip specifically for if you have a small cage and can’t get a bigger one, you can deconstruct the cage, removing the bottom entirely (you can just use fleece or any sort of board if you have it) and take off the top of the cage and instead use it as a side piece! Lengthening your cage. And use zipties to keep together if the clips aren’t working. It’s definitely not the best option but it is a good idea as a placeholder until you can get a better home for them

Its really nice how you spoke about children and parents this way, its very true the people who can afford them need to be on board with keeping any Animal happy, safe and well cared for On the flip side, I have actually met someone who was an adult saying they wanted Guinea Pigs for their kids and I explained that kids can get bored and they said that they use the kids as an excuse and its the parents that really wanted them, they was just as excited to get them

I am 17 and got my first guineapigs 3 weeks ago. Today they were calm enough to eat from my hand for the first time(Was so happy lol) My mom and I first bought also a petstore cage. Which was very spontanious so I didn't think about it(Before we got them). and I realised (after watching some videos) that this cage is NOT OK. I immidatly told my mom and not even a day later we brought the cage back and got those songmic things(2 of them. We put them together.) (Still everything before we got them). and THEN we got our two piggies and I am really happy that i realised that these cages are not ok BEFORE i bought those piggies. They seem really happy and I am glad I did change it before i got them

I am 13 and I have 2 guinea pigs, I like to believe I'm taking good care of them, I work for one of my parents and earn quite a bit, enough to buy the food and hay and visits to the vet. I watch a lot of your videos and I change whatever is wrong. I think they are pretty well off and I know they are happy because they popcorn a lot and always greet me when I come into the room.

I think it's fine for kids to have guinea pigs as long as parents don't give them a guinea pig and just leave the guinea pig to suffer especially if it's a child under the age of I'd say like 9 or 10. I took really great care of my guinea pig my guinea pig had a great size cage as well too so I think as long as a child shows the parents they would be responsible.

Now this is a great video changing the critique to very inadequate cages, these cages are far to small, the first one made me feel like crying! Parents are responsible for their child’s animals, the first thing that should be done is educate themselves on sizing, feeding, types of bedding, good healthy pellets, salads and hay, come on parents children shouldn’t be left with these animals all parents are responsible for the pigs! dont worry, im 12 years old, and i have 2 guinea pigs and they have a custom large cage, they have fleece bedding that gets cleaned everyday and they have 2 tablespoons of guinea pig food and get veggies everyday, ofcourse they have a hay pile too.they also get floor time alot every day!they are definitely very spoiled guinea pigs lol, they are okay

i entirely agree abt children not having any animals unless parents understand what their getting into, i begged for some as a kid and i’m so happy i never got them because i didn’t have the proper stuff i did all the research and probably would’ve been ok but nobody should have animals they aren’t willing to research and learn about. I am now almost 18 i got my first set of guinea pigs last year and i pay for a lot myself but do rely on my parents sometimes and my two boys are currently in a 3 by 6 ( 18 square feet and take up my entire closet ) and as soon as i get an apartment i plan on dedicating a room to them. Very excited and i LOVE ur vids keep it up

Me and my wife got 2 little piggies for our daughter's with full expectations that we must be willing to spend on their supplies if need be and take them to the vet if they get sick. They have a cage similar to yours but with a plastic bottom attached with valco and lined with fleece. The only Aspen we put in their cage is their pooping box (I know you can't potty train a piggy). They have 3 little hidey areas, 2 dishes, 2 bottles, hay feeders with extra hay in key areas around their home. They get fed pellets and veggies that me and my wife make sure is appropriate for them (don't want them tummy troubles) and they get special vitamin C treats every day, plus tons of little toys. Of the 2 of us I'm the only one with experience from having guinea pigs as a kid but it's definitely different requirements now to make sure they are happy and healthy.

I had guinea pigs as a child and never understood how much work my dad put into looking after them for me, he literally made a huge enclosurethat was half of our backyard, he was a wildlife carer so always went all-out for animals! As a parent, I now understand it's SOOO much work! (But our whole family love our piggies... my hubby has a special bond with the male piggy, he LOVES my hubby and squeals crazy when he gets home from work!) We waited years to get our youngest a pet and after LOTS of research when she turned 10, we settled on a pair of baby girl piggies...of course they were miss-sexed and we ended up with a male and female🤦‍♀️, luckily we realised in the first week and separated them until the male was old enough to be castrated! But now they're together in their 2 level 5x2 c&c cage...we started off with a smaller cage but realised very quickly they needed a LOT more room! Then there's the cleaning! I do a pick-up first thing in the morning and do a complete strip of the whole cage of an afternoon so it's all clean for night. Our piggies spend about 6 hours a day out of the cage where we have a safe free-range area in our lounge room...our piggies are inside pets as we live in Australia and it's way too hot to let them be outside...plus there's the snakes!🙄 We rearrange their cage every day and try to do different set-ups of tunnels, hides, toys and food...they're always excited for bedtime and get the zoomies exploring everything, we don't want them getting bored during the time we're not around. As a parent we didn't realise how expensive their diet would be, with their oxbow food, hay and so many capsicum and other veggies ...but on the plus side we're all eating more salads now! I honestly can't imagine getting piggies for small children, even as a very mature 10 year old, my daughter needs a lot of help looking after our piggies properly! It's great to see people like you making videos to help others understand the NEEDS of guinea pigs...we have found ours to be very intelligent and mischievous little creatures, each with their own unique personality and we just want to give them the best life we're able to.

Yes, I give my daughter a lot of helpful tips she did all the research by her-self! We are going to get 2 females soon!! the bare minimum 7.5 sq feet, but 10.5 sq feet is preferred, we built (out of c&c) 12 sq feet!!!

7:41 I used to have a cage like that for my 2 male Guinea pigs and only gave them pellets then I told my mom that they need hay so they’re teeth don’t grow so long and told my mom about how bad it is to have a small cage for Guinea pigs so now we have a cage that’s WAY bigger so now they have everything they need, hay,2 pellet bowls,2 water bottles,2 hidey houses so yeah.😊 Edit:they also get veggies and fruits!

I couldn’t agree more about kids not owning them, I’m 17 and my little sister is 9 (doesn’t live with me) she got a guinea pig without doing research and she got bored of him and her guardian’s felt bad the piggy didn’t get attention. So they asked if I could take him in and I did. Luckily, I have a job and was able to upgrade his cage. He was in a 2x4 pet store cage, and it was extendable so I extended it to a 2x5 but now he is in a 6x3 cnc cage and Im currently trying to find him a friend

In my opinion no child under 10 should own any type of exotic or small pet. The responsibility usually lands on the parents, because the child loses interest or they get tired of the routine care. Contrary to popular belief (small pets being ez) Small pet supplies and vet care is super expensive. Handling a small and or exotic pet requires an individual that understands and has studied whatever pet they have interest in adopting. Knowledge is power. Hope all you younglins read this. I'm 12 and I go back and forth throughout houses. I have a hamster at my dad's house and he's super helpful l. While I'm gone he spot cleans, feeds, waters, and check up on my hamster everyday and I'm super grateful for it! While I'm their I take on full responsibility and I paid for everything including the hamster!

Hi so currently I have a cage that is a bit too small for the guinea pigs but my mom and I are going to build a bigger one as soon as possible, I usually let the guinea pigs run around the room almost every day though, they have tunnels and toys that I take out when they're out of the cage because I know the cage is small. I do thank you for saying children aren't meant to look after pets by themselves, my mom makes me let my little sister look after them and sometimes she forgets to even feed them, so i stopped letting her look after them.

Hi, I'm a teenager and since I can remember my mom always had a guinea pig. But only one at a time I've loved these piggies as a kid and would let them roam around in my room every day. When I was around 10 I realised that it wasn't good to keep them by themself but also in such a small cage. After the last one died we didn't get a another and threw away everything. But a few months ago my mum spontaneously said she wanted to get one again. I couldn't convince her otherwise and was actually excited too. I tried my best at convincing and made her get a second one and the biggest cage we've ever owned (still kinda too small). So now...we've got two young really adorable males (we already got them fixed) in a cage which is too small. But my parents don't want to get a bigger one because it would be too expensive, would take up too much space and would be a waste of money etc...😬 I cannot really do anything about it except letting them roam around in my room everyday after school so they can run. I bought them toys especially made for guinea pigs and rearrange their cage every two weeks. Do you have any advice of what more I could do?

I'm 13 and my dad makes me buy my own stuff for my guinea pig but my om helps out. I currently only have one guinea pig because the ones at the pet store are expensive and there are never girls for sale around me. I am currently saving up for a Kavee cage and will be asking for that and that only for my birthday. You have made it come to my attention on how important proper care is thank you! Oh also you were one of my only sources for research to convince my parents that I was ready for the responsibility of a guinea pig. Im 12 and my parents got me 2 guinea pigs. My parents were planning on just putting them in 2 separate small pet store cages but I did my research watched lots of videos and now my guinea pigs live a big cage with lots of toys.

When i was 11 years old my mom bought me and my little brothers two male guinea pigs. Since i was the older one i did almost everything for them and it was sad for me bc i wanted to upgrade their pet shop cage to a c&c cage like the ones i saw on KZfaq but my parents refused. Also the pet shop lied to us so we gave our guinea pigs the wrong food and they had a bad bedding😿😿 it makes me so sad to remember them bc they both were so cute and cuddly and i neglected them without knowing:( Now im 19 years old and after doing a lot of research and saving money for years i decided to adopt 3 female guinea pigs and they are living in a 3x6 c&c cage with good food, hay and many beds and hideouts. I feel im healing the wounds i had with my older boys💝💝

my moms are currently helping me build a wooden cage for my two pigs. they previously had a cnc cage but when i went to do a deep clean and wipe down everything i discovered rusted bars! to be fair i had been using the same grids since my first pair of pigs so it was definitely their time to go lol 10 ish years is a pretty good run lol the new cage will be 48in x 32in with a bump out for their hay box, an upper lever, and a lower level. tbh the lower level is mostly for me because they just look so cute when they run down to get treats lol

None of these cages are even big enough for a Syrian hamster, let alone TWO guinea pigs!

Hi iam the last but one cage i just wanted to say i made them a lil upgrade the mats are clean just Stained And also i refill the Hay bag very very often And make them a play pěn 1-3 times a day i bought them some new fleece but its just stained the blue bed is now in the corner next to the water bottle. I got my guinea pigs at 11, and I had the Midwest cage with 2 females. My parents were willing to let me upgrade to a wooden diy cage, and it's 15 square feet. I've done SO much research, and I take good care of them. I am 14 now, and I can say that guinea pigs are NOT pets for kids. It takes a lot of work, but I'm responsible enough, and my parents are always there for help. Though I also know adults (teachers) that have piggies for class pets, they are alone, and it's really sad, so it can be adults too.

When I first got my guinea pig, I had them in a small pet shop cage, but I realised my mistake. I make my entire cubby house for the guinea pigs, so that they could have as much space as they needed. I’m in grade 5 now, and my guinea pigs are so happy. I make sure to give them fresh was 2x a day aswell as vegetables and hay. I also give them the recommend amount of pellets each day. I hope more people recognise that it is irresponsible to own guinea pigs in small cages. They need lots of space and love and pet shop cages are just horrible!

The only 'let's my son has is a fish. Obviously I take care of the fish and do what's needed but he picked it out lol. We have 3 dogs and a cat. Dogs are inside/outside cat is outside (by her choice) I love my animals 🖤

Hey! i was just wondering i have a Ferplast 160 Cage but i removed the ramp in the cage the reason i have it is because i have both cats and dogs even though there not aggressive i don't wanna take chances i have a single female piggy were getting another female this weekend i rescued her from someone who could no longer take her I've had her for about a week alone ( she's been alone her whole life prior to this) and did health checks now i know shes healthy and able to have a piggy friend but what i was trying to ask is a ferplast 160 cage okay? its a 63.8 L x 23.62 W x 19.68 H
