One of the most frequently asked questions I get is: why have you been taking methotrexate for 21 years? Aren’t you scared of the side effects?
❤️‍🩹 In this video, I show you how I do my weekly injection and share why I believe the risks of the disease itself are worse than the potential side effects.
🙌 One thing I forgot to say is that I happen to be fortunate to not have any consistently bad side effects from methotrexate- occasionally I will get tired the next day or have a headache the next day, but it is not every single week.

I used to take Methotrexate after we found out about my autoimmune disorder/disease called Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. After we were sure it was under control we made the decision to switch to Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) since it is a bit less aggressive. Thankfully my symptoms have not come back since we first started on the methotrexate and it’s been about 6 years now! 😄

@@maqsoombegum1412 so far it’s been ok for me, but my doctors are having me get my eyes/optic nerves checked about once a year to see if it is effecting them badly. I just got them checked last week and everything looked good! I hope if you switch that it works out for you!

Hi I’m about to start Methotrexate for Lupus. Can you tell me if you have any nasty side affects? I was given pill form and I’m terrified to take it but I have to bc Lupus is tearing up my body.

I self inject methotrexate and abatercept weekly. I was really nervous of injections at the beginning of starting them but now, I barely even pay attention and don’t bat an eyelid. The fear of doing it is always worse than the fractional fleeting sting they give me in my experience. I do find the needles where I can see the needle itself and control the speed and pressure of the puncture itself and the plunge of meds is much better for me - the speed and jerkiness of one of the pens makes me jump whenever I’ve had them and always hurt more. Any injection though is soooooo much better than a flare though!

@@maqsoombegum1412 Hi 👋🏻 I’ve been on methotrexate for 5 years and abatercept for 2 years. I was on Rituximab infusions but the dreaded C word meant the hospital suspended giving them to patients because of complications if they tested Covid positive. The side effects with methotrexate are pretty mild - I’ve got some hair thinning and the day after my injection, I am super tired, but headachy and foggy in my head but overall, not bad at all and it has really dampened down my RA activity well. I get no side effects from the biologic thankfully. It only stings for a second so it’s all good really…my finger prick blood sugar testing is worse lol. What about you? Are you having injections or thinking about it?

I agree. Way more scared of the disease and what I have been through from it vs. the medication and how I feel now. Which is better than before the meds.

I love just picked up mine today and I’m soo freaking out ! I’m a medical assistant and honestly doing it on my self has me scared ! Do you switched between stomach and thigh ? And do you save the medication right ? I was told in school that the vaccines once it’s open only lasts for a week than toss is this med the same ?

what side effects have you experienced? I was on 6 tabs a week, but experienced bad hair loss, which my dr did not address! Was on Humira shots plus metho on a 7r yr clinical trial, the trial was extended twice and then concluded. Have not been on any active meds for a year only take 2 paracetamol per day but watch my food intake.

Have you take pill form? I was just given pill form for Lupus and I’m scared. I know the injections are easier on your stomach. I was wondering if you got sick from taking pills or have you always injected? Thanks!

You got this! I took the pill form but since I have a history of stomach upset and I don't mind injecting, my doctor suggested switching to self injections

Hi there, it's been working to control my disease for 21 years now, in addition to my biologic meds! I occasionally have fatigue the day after I inject but not always. Thanks for the question!
