I used to vote Republican, then slowly started voting for some Democrats candidates. Then it was mostly Democrats and few Republicans. Thank you Amanpour and Co. for having Michel Martin interview Robert Draper on your show. Both Michel and Robert did an excellent job describing the current problem, and it would be interesting to see a discussion about how we get ourselves out of this mess. I agree, the Democratic party has to do more to highlight the real issues of inflation, gas prices, and the economy and both explain the root causes (windfall profits by corporate owners, collusion, war and oil price hikes by OPEC), and propose solutions (heavily tax windfall profits, increase earned income tax credits, break up oligopolies, keep American energy here and solve climate issues by green energy and energy efficiency). If we focus on the main issues and demand transparency and limits on money in politics, we might reduce the power and number of these Trumpian office holders. To use an analogy from biology, favoring healthy cultures in a medium limits the numbers of unhealthy organisms, as the healthy microorganisms take over and squeeze out the bad bugs. Hopefully we can save the body politic from this current unhealthy infection.

This interview was another example - they spent a decent amount of time discussing MTG - absolutely no reference to this, which to me goes a great way to explaining her appeal. Why is that - is the media of the Left (I'm not saying this accusingly, but I am wondering.) Kinda ignoring this?. I don't know what polls you're looking at but we certainly have seen polls in the last two weeks that clearly indicate that people who maybe just watch the news most nights on ABC NBC or CBS with a little local thrown in with their affiliates, and maybe meet the press on Sundays or at least CBS Sunday morning, very much understand that democracy is top of ballot in these midterms and that voting in these midterms is actually more important or as important as a presidential election., And the most important midterm elections in history. Arizona, who certainly boasts some crazy maga stuff, has polls which show that 91% of voters, both male and female, and that's a huge number when it comes to any poll, whatsoever,, will vote against candidates who want to ban abortions, either by state, or by a federal law, certainly a federal ban is a despicable notion for men and women all over this country. The normal, good men in this country even if they're conservative about other things, actually have women that they love; wives, romantic partners, sisters, mothers, daughters, best friends, coworkers, cousins... They have the foresight in the maturity and the common sense to realize that they're now 6-year-old daughters, even newborn baby girls, might someday face the despicable tragedy of sexual assault , and/or a problematic pregnancy that could even be life risking. And the thought of their rights being taken from them, their medical well-being and safety, potentially they're very fertility taken from them or decided for them in such a despicable way, especially the party claiming it hates big government being the most big government anyone's ever seen... Understand what's at stake. Living in Austria during the 1990‘s, we experienced the phenomenon called Jörg Haider - an early example of a politician, whose popularity was claiming like a rocket. He could have stabbed a grandmother on a public place and his followers would have accused the old lady for provoking this. People desperately wanted to believe in something that explained the complex issues of our rapidly changing world in simple terms. No matter if these simple solutions are destroying, democracy, our economy or crushing minorities. This is a ‘religious war’.

What a mess! I have been a Republican since I was 18, because my family was and I needed it to get a job with the government. I am now 78 and moved to South American 10 years ago. I have never in my life voted for a party. For my Country's sake, I voted for the person I feel is best. The two-party system does not work. Where I now live, you are required by law to vote and you have so many parties that it takes a primary election and one or two playoffs to get a President. And family is never mentioned and no bad-mouthing the opponent or you are immediately withdrawn as a candidate. And your campaign time is restricted. I now live in a Country that honors the word RESPECT, something long gone in the U.S. How can a Country be respected when it puts a mentally impaired individual in the Presidential office and allows him to ruin the U.S. for four years and then gives him more media time than anyone has ever had.
