@@TumeloManamela Hard top on the back, not the largest engine they sell (3l v6) and it still won. Rangers do look nice, the hilux is tough for off roading ect but then none of them are shit off road... when it comes to speed though the amarok is still no.1.

Nice video guys, I expected the Amarok to win but maybe rerun the test without a canopy? Most double cab bakkies are sold in the 2wd / 4x2 variant what I don't get is why no motoring journalists do off-road tests of the more popular variant. Can you guys do a video of each of these bakkies in a 4x2 variant on a off-road course or even just a video to show case how capable a 4x2 with diff-lock can be?

With that much more power I would have expected the Wildtrak to do much better than the Amarok. Shows how fantastic that ZF gearbox is in the Amarok. Just be careful to drive in 4H with the Ranger on Tar as you can get Diff windup.

Ford should offer the 2.3, 2.7 & 3.5 Ecoboost petrol engines in the Ranger. Yes I know the majority of the population want diesel for fuel efficiency and longevity, however I’m not one of those people. I don’t want a low revving tractor sounding engine, I have the 4.0 V6 Hilux from 2009 and I love it, I simply couldn’t replace it with a diesel. Thankfully Toyota still offers the 4.0 in its latest Hilux, but I’m more of a Ford man myself, I’d love the new Ranger Raptor with the 2.7 V6 or 3.5 V6 Ecoboost from the F-150. I know the market for these engines in SA isn’t that big, everyone wants a diesel, but I know I’m not the only one who would appreciate Ford brining back some decent petrol engine offerings to the Ranger.

Tiaan Richards: Yeah... thanks but no thanks, if I had to replace my 2009 Hilux right now it would be with a new 4.0 V6 Hilux because that’s the only petrol offering that’s worth it for me, it’s powerful, sounds good and is from a reputable brand. I also own a 2016 Fiesta ST and I’m a bit of a Ford fan so I’d prefer a Ranger over the Hilux, but I want a good petrol engine in the Ranger. The engine is the heart of the vehicle so it’s a very important factor for me.

I have an Amarok bi-turbo 4 motion and I thought the ranger would be ahead by far...but not. Weight related or transmission performance maybe. I had a Ranger 3.2 and liked it too but the Amarok has more space and above all, MUCH better traction and active safety with its torsen 4wd. You can reverse in ramp without wheel spin, Ranger you have to put in 4H in same condition, and you can't turn...or damage diff. AWD is far superior to rear drive. And with the very short 1st gear no need of low range towing or off roading. Only lacks rear airbags I agree. Mine is 220cv with stage 2 ecu remap/intake/exhaust, this engine is very though, never heard of engine breaking, whereas many 2.2 rangers had their engine broken due to oil pump issue. Still all 3 are great pick up.

Remember Air bags are marked SRS - Secondary Restraining System. The Amarok is a much more stable vehicle as it is wider. Also permanent 4wd which makes it safer. So the change of having to "use" the airbags in the back is lower.

In my opinion these things are only short term toys. I will keep my troopie and 100 series as long as i wish. Blissfully immune to the need to replace my car regularly which is what the motoring consumer has been corralled into.

Not all cars are built to shit, not in the pick up world anyway. Luxury cars and cars for city folk yeah, they're crap... problem is most people don't/can't do the most basic of services on their car, hell most don't even swap out their own oil anymore, it's quite frankly fucking embarrassing. The issue is people have been led to believe they can just "get another" which is why there are literall graveyards of cars with 100's of 1000's of cars brand new, sat there rotting away. Thank god for my old 2005 l200... basic equipment, takes a shit load of abuse. easy to maintain, and just keeps on ticking away happy as.

There ARE limits on the highways, and the thing is so front heavy there's reason for all the big truck fails videos online. Having seen first hand what a modded amarok.... remapped to 310ish bhp, 600torque, 2 inch lift and level with some bfg ko2's on it.... does compared with an f150 raptor scab in real world off road, not the "desert running" 99% of people don't do, they're no joke lol. The ranger is a nice truck, that engine needs some real r&d to get more out of it from factory though as it's clearly capable but piss weak from factory.

niaz Khan have you ever drove a Ford brother? You know my first truck is a hilux, but sold it lady January 2017 and bought a Ford Ranger Wildtrak 3.2 manual.... and it has a huge difference.... drive a Ford first then let's talk again.... peace be with you brother....
