I’ve lived all my life in the US. Weighing using metric is by far the easiest and most accurate measuring system. Much easier to divide grams by 50% than to measure out half of 1/3 cup when dividing a recipe!

I'll say it again, and take your lesson from the snow monkeys area: give the peacocks an area of their own, with a kind of barn, maybe over where the sheep field is, and they will use their own spaces. Our peacocks loved to roost, like birds do, and they needed a big ole birdhouse. Your terrace is the closest thing to a framed-out barn, so you can't blame them for wanting to roost right over your nice table. PLEASE if you want peacocks, get someone in to help you build a nice area for them.

I was reading about your Briffault Stove in Monets house. the top part is A grillade. It is a hood over a grill to create a draft to draw smoke and fumes up into the stove’s chimney; a door on the front slides down to form a sort of seal around the grill area to intensify the draft. Incredibly expensive in their time.

Being intrigued by your Briffault stove, I did some poking around the webs earlier this year and found some good information on a page about the stove in Monet's Giverny house. The slanted hood looks like a "grillades", and I notice in the video it sits above some "réchauds" -- pits where a wood charcoal would be burned in the summer months to avoid the sweltering heat that would result from firing up the big fire box. This is explained on the page I found. In the past, when I've tried to link to a web page from these comments, my comment has been removed (some youtube rule?). So..., if you google for "Vintage French Copper Monet's Stove" you should find an article dated December 30, 2023. That's the page. About 2/3 the way down the page are illustrations of grillades. Maybe that's what you have?

The new robot vacuum did a good job under the sofa but it scattered the sugar all over, you can see it on the floor. I wonder if it came back to sweep it? Great idea for the work surface for Marie, can't wait to see it in place. Every counter is precious in the kitchen!
