Amazing Abandoned Cliffside Resort in Dominican Republic

This beautiful abandoned resort is surrounded by breathtaking ocean views and shrouded in mystery of why it was abandoned. It is located in Macao, Dominican Republic. Below is a link to map location. If you go there and get the business end of a shotty, don't say I didn't warn you.

Hi, hope you had a wonderful time in the D.R with your family. This is part of a massive project called Roco Ki, and that area you shot with the drone was going to be an ultra Luxury Fairmont Hotel. The Golf court you see was actually built by Nick Faldo, so you can get a sense of how luxurious this project was meant to be and will probably still be in the near future, the property has now been bought by spanish investors so expect development continue to happen in the near future. I was told by the locals that this was used for refugees from Haiti after the Earthquakes in 2010. I walked as far as I could on the beach towards this thing from the Majestic Mirage. It looked like a penetentiary from far away. But clearly it's somesort of failed resort. Very cool thanks for your hard work.

Dude I was at the mirage too and tried the same thing I made it about 2/3 of the way in my bare feet but there was too much garbage on the beach area and its farther than it looks , but Ill never forget it .. When I asked someone about it at the resort how long it would take to walk there they just started laughing ,.now I know why.. Someone else said that Trump wanted to buy it at one point.. who knows

2nd part ofy.story.is next time we went to punta Cana , since we didn't see it the first time , I figured we'll take a taxi , as someone said they have tours or used to do tours , so we finally get there and we cant see the building , but theres a guard shack with like 3 or 4 guys with AKs or machine guns guarding this dirt road along with a couple stray looking dogs , so the taxi driver is talking in Spanish to these guys they get on the radio and a guy comes up on a quad and he talks to the taxi driver in Spanish which we don't have a clue . Ends up being he denied us entry to the place . Anyone that first sees that place from the resorts , I know gotta be wondering what s that out there ? Looks pretty huge, then heard someone got in trouble building it . If nothing's being done with it IDK why they don't sell it instead of letting it just sit there wasting away.Im sure it would sell fast and instead of paying people to guard some abandoned place have tours to make some tourist money off it.

There is another video where they actually got in past the guards and there are Haitian families living there in some of the nicer, more intact buildings. They have chickens and ducks running all around.

Thank you for this video! My son and I wondered what this castle is like (from far Bavaro Beach resort) A Dominican told me it was an American hotel...

Great video, just got back from there and I was wondering what that was....anyways years back my wife and two daughters stayed at another resort and we hired one of the staff to take us out and about. As we drove he was on the phone talking to others in Spanish & German. We made our first stop no problem but I noticed the driver was annoyed by the stop....warning bells. After a bit we got back in and drove some more...the road to the left & right was paved....straight ahead was all dirt, steel shanties, all men, no women or police to be seem....i asked him to turn around....he told me trust him good shopping ahead, short cut....warning bells are blaring...I told him to stop....he continued....finally I grabbed the wheel and turned the van as he hit the brakes....now I had his attention...he apologized....I told him to take us immediately to a taxi stand we had passed...upon arriving back at the hotel I told them what had transpired....they showed me on google earth where he was heading....an empty field known as D. R. little Haiti....they said no ONE Goes there!!!! It was a kidnapping set up waiting for us. Point is listening to your comments you never know who is taking you where....finally if he had not turned around it was going to be a fight that he would never have forgotten....there was too much at stake!!! The Hotel fired him!

That's a horrific story! I'm so glad you paid attention to your internal warning bells and are all safe and sound. This is why I don't travel much. I've had so many bad experiences even just here in the U.S. that I don't ever go to foreign countries.

I was staying at the Bahia Principe in 2017, I noticed this building way off in the distance. I too was determined to reach this building after an early morning start. After an hour and a half walk already past the last resort (Hard Rock), running out of water, and looking like storm clouds coming in. I decided to abandon my quest and turn back. Grateful for your video providing a layout for this structure, and letting me know my quest from the opposite side would have been futile. Thank you, M.

Hahah I made the walk! We ran most of they way but the sand got too soft after about 30 min so we had to walk the rest. We’re staying at Bahai principe right now. I don’t blame you for turning back. But we brought a backpack with water and sunscreen. Also I downloaded google maps Satellite view to see where we were.

Right after hard rock is where the sand gets soft. We made it Macao in about 2 hours and to the ruins in about 1h 40 min

We went on foot and found a dog in the middle area. So we slowly backed our way out.

We walked 10k from Bahia principe to Macao beach to surf. Thank god we only ran into the dog and not the shotgun man. Those light brown buildings aren’t wooden. They’re all abandoned nothing is being rebuilt

So cool great video! Just curious did you research Drone laws in the country? I would love to take my Mini if I ever go to Dominican again. You are much braver than me though, I would be so scared to do this!

Thanks for watching. I did not find the rules on any official government site but did find a bunch of drone websites pretty much listing the same laws as in canada. Basically just don't do anything stupid and you will have no problems.
