My first human carving, an American Indian Chief! This was definitely my most intricate and difficult chainsaw carving commission to date! I did this project during early spring, finally got around to going through the numerous hours of footage to put this video together for you all! Hope you enjoy :)

Tay I new this vlog would be good, but it totally knocked me off my feet so to speak. I’ve had the honor and privilege to be there in away to watch as this sculpture was created from a log to the piece you see here today. This Indian Chief tugs at my heart in so many ways. What a magnificent sculpture this turned out to be! It is always AMAZING to me how TayMarie creates her pieces of art with a chainsaw. Add in her artistry with a paint brush and rattle cans and in this case no help from a airbrush is second to none. What a wonderful vlog to celebrate this impressive accomplishment! Can’t wait to see what her chainsaws might be creating next. I know it will be something good. Stay tuned! Bravo to you my sweet talented friend!!! ☺️💛

Your proportions were Spot On. You have found the skill set that God has given you. In the fall, I carved a mountain man skinning a rabbit, and I struggled with symmetry.
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 5 ай бұрын
That sounds like a complex carving!! Wow! Yes, symmetry is always difficult, make sure you stop carvings every few minutes, take a few steps back, and look at your work. That will help a bit with your symmetry, if you left too much material one side it will be easier to see with a little distance. Also take pictures on your phone and flip them, helps identify things that are off!

Hello . I really enjoyed all your carving work . Everything looks awesome. I’ve started carving just a couple of weeks ago and really like it. I like your work pace speed i can tell that you have a peace and love creating your art, praise the Lord. I noticed that you use a 3m respirator with the pink filters , have you tried the purple filters they work awesome, they help filter better with the exhaust fumes and paint fumes. They cost a little more but worth it.

@@TayMarie23 3m P100 2297 are the filter. I have a question , is white pine nice to carve on ? Sorry two questions , how dry does the wood need to be to make sure it doesn’t do something funky later? Thanks George
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 5 ай бұрын
White pine is great! At least here in Maine it’s abundant, cheap to free, and always available, hence why it’s my go to wood. In a perfect world I would carve cedar more for it’s outdoor resiliency and weight but cedar doesn’t get big here like it does over west. You never have to wait for your logs to dry. Carving green is the traditional way of carving, easier on the tools and your body. I like my logs to sit around just long enough that it starts cracking (usually around 3mo) so I can strategically place the cracks towards the back of the carving.

Tough question! This thing did not what to be carved, my first go the log was infested with carpenter ants, so I had to scrap that log and start completely over. New log was dropped off the night before a big snow storm and I spent hours on end trying to remove the new log from the frozen ground. Took weeks until I could start on the new log. If you aren’t counting all those hours, I would say I got about 70-80 hours into this one?

So would i be right in guessing that ! you either use them for maybe hand carving for yourself or others or sold on for that type of thing. After all nothing these days seems to come free does it ?? Also guess you have to buy the logs in the first place. Cheers Les.

Thank you! It’s been just over a year since I got my first Chainsaw! End of August 2022 is when I started teaching myself to do this 😊

Totally amazing work and craftsmanship. Wished I live near you so I could watch or see it in person. Looks very expensive. Would love to own it but again not sure if I could afford it. Keep up the amazing work.

Just started raising my prices to meet my current skill level, let’s just say this customer got a good deal 😂 Thank you for the kind words! There are a lot of live chainsaw carving events all over the world, if you enjoy watching it you should try to find an even closest to you! They are always a blast to attend!

@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 5 ай бұрын
Too long! Probably 2 months of work between other projects and what not! The first log I carved ended up being infested with carpenter ants so after a week of work I had to scrap it and start over! This project was a pain as much as it was a joy haha!

Great job! Do you just use the gorilla glue to attach the head and arm, or do you dowel as well?
@gypsywolf58

I just read your reply to Rick, down below. Would love to see how you do your joinery(sp?)
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 9 ай бұрын
The gorilla glue is definitely strong enough alone but I always dowel or timberlok larger attachments, this project I used 5-6” Timberloks, sometimes they are just easier and more discreet then pounding a dowel in! 😊
@gypsywolf58

@@TayMarie23 I'm not familiar with timberlocks. Do you have a video on joinery and dowel vs timberlocks?
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 9 ай бұрын
I do no, but that’s a good idea though! I haven’t posted any educational or tutorial videos since I’m just learning how to do this myself 😂 Timberloks are long structural screws, I believe they even use them for log cabin homes. I show them in my life sized deer carving video, I don’t do much joinery so I think that’s the only video that shows them!

Thank you Taymarie! I've been carving only four years myself. I think this beautiful craft, is constantly evolving, and that's why it's so exciting. I really hope you do a video on joinery. Thank you so much for your response and keep on what your doing!

How do you resist the urge to post teaser videos of your progress. You know, before the piece is actually finished.? That's kind of why my Video of of my. German Shepherd bust came out in 3 parts. And it's also why I've already posted 3 videos of my new big project, and it's still not done.😂😂
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 10 ай бұрын
I do that mostly because of my Patreon. They get to see the daily progress of my carvings and video updates! But I do have a few teaser shorts I plan to release on my current big project!

Have you carved something that it just kills your soul to sale ?
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 2 ай бұрын
Oh definitely! Most of my works is carved to order so it’s sort of sold before I even start the project! It’s nice to send them off to their new homes! But occasionally I will carve an inventory item and it will sit around for awhile and it hurts when it goes, takes a piece of me with it! I did a video on a rooster, that one did sell for almost a year and when it did sell I was more sad then happy 😂🫶🏼
