"Rolling through the Bay", Scott Weaver's toothpick sculpture took 37 years to make. His 9 foot tall sculpture of San Francisco and is made of 100,000 toothpicks and glue. If that wasn't enough, Scott built 5 different "tours" where he can roll a ping pong balls though it and watch them go around the sculpture like a mini roller coaster ride. We visited Scott at home and at San Francisco's @exploratorium to see how and why he builds his toothpick sculptures and to see his work in action. Truly Amazing Art!!!!

better use something recycled...it is just such a waste and marketing strategy to use toothpicks to get attention...not art, just some craft based on wasting woods since it costs way more to produce those toothpicks, just make some wooden crafts... I feel bad for those trees. kids get inspired to craft when we do a lot of other more environmental friendly things as well. You are just trying to make it sounds deep and meaningful by saying that.

1. THIS DESERVES a full 3D documentation of the project. 2. This deserves architectural drawings of the project and plans for 3D printing replication. 3. THIS NEEDS PROTECTION. A glass container is mandatory with an entrance so the work is protected. 4. This is his freedom and his valhalla. A gifted man with a great talent. This IS an artist.

He shouldn't have to work ever again, he clearly has a talent. To be honest it's very sad that this man doesn't realize how important making money off of this is. In order to get back the effort that he put in he should have had his own KZfaq channel where he demonstrated the entire process, he could literally pay for his entire families houses and lives but instead he went on someone else's channel for them to take all the money. I can't stop thinking about this these days, it's the reason I started my own KZfaq channel 5 years ago. I kept going on other channels and I would see the videos would do well, it's the same thing with a 9 to 5 job. Eventually you have to do it for yourself. Everything in life is risky, take that leap.

5/8/23.......WOW!.........Thank you for doing this kinetic sculpture!......A fellow artist here,...my name is Dave....I built models as a kid, had building toys, later became an artist, then a print maker, then a one-of-a-kind, sculptured art furniture maker,....less about function more about them being pieces of art. I get such a kick out creators like yourself. I collected aluminum foil to create a basket ball sized ball. I love "tramp art" & street artists who use found junk, bottle caps, and creative popsicle stick art. My earliest art when I was in college was building things with corrugated cardboard, I built full body covering costumes, hats that look like architecture, and tons of models for the furniture I later made in wood and mixed media. I appreciate your dedication to building those wonderful toothpick sculptures. Yay!

Engineering is a process necessary in the creating of any tangible object. The fact that this man was able to design and execute a machine like this that works clearly portrays that he has mechanically oriented mind. Anso, maybee he did not become an engineer is bectausr he just likes creating, instead of sitting at a desk all day.

Makes me feel a little less alone about my own situation. I’m extremely creative and love making music, learning to engineer 3D printing designs, teaching myself to edit and produce videos etc, but I am the least career driven person you will ever meet. I will be cutting up boxes and stocking shelves for the rest of my life. No such thing as doing what you love and never working a day in your life. The phrase should go “If you do what you love for a living, you’ll just quickly learn to hate what you once loved.” Good on him for finding a way to still be happy.
