On June 3rd and 4th, the Amusement Preservation Museum in Northeastern Ohio held their annual open house, and there was no way I was gonna miss it! The museum's private collection features everything from Geauga Lake and Cedar Point to Euclid Beach and Conneaut Lake, plus everything in between. So join me for a great trip down memory lane to look at some pieces of amusement park history, plus a bonus visit at the end to a place many remember fondly.

Glad you were able to make it out, it was a pleasure meeting you! The Big Dipper train was originally built by NAD in Ohio, however the one was have was a replacement built in house by the park. The Fright Fever sign was from a show Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure, unfortunately I haven't located a photo of the sign in the park. (And yes I realize Conneaut is spelled wrong on the sign!) -Troy

Troy, do you open your museum every year on the first weekend of June? Or any other times of the year? I'd love to check this out for myself sometime.

@@timk987 We have an open house the first weekend of June every year, however you can set an appointment to view anytime, but things are generally packed up and hard to view. The best time to visit it the open house or during other events!

Years ago at one of the Wildwood, NJ amusement piers had one of these swing rides. My sister and I loved to ride that ride. When we road together and got enough momentum we ocassionaly got the car to go over the top. That was always the goal but on most days we could only get it almost to the top. I always thought it was a great ride, human powered and gave you a good workout while having fun.

I remember riding those cage swings when we were kids. Yes you can get them to go all the way over. It was a lot of work.👍🏻😄

playing galacticas music in the background while looking at the steal vengance model.... thats, an odd thing to hear, but such a cool collection to see of old attractions... and the swings brings back memories of the fun fair that used to come to my old village as they had a set of them, but that was the 90s

There were various amusement park music tracks playing in there throughout the day. Millennium Force's station music was playing most of the time.

The Geauga Lake sign at 5:32... My dad has one just like it (I don't believe he sold it, but could be mistaken), it was one of the signs near the entrance area outside the park. My dad actually purchased the big one over the main gate, but made a trade with the Aurora Historical Society for the smaller one, while the big one is in the Historical Society's museum.

And at 11:12... Back to the neighborhood I grew up in. That red brick building, in my 37 years. Has been a Mattress Store, Like 3 different Chinese Restaurants, A couple different Indian restaurants, a Mexican restaurant and probably a few others over the years. On the other side of it is an Auto Parts store that was a Famous Recipe Chicken when I was little, then it was a Mr Hero, before it became the Auto parts store. I've ridden bicycle past that thousands of times in my youth. Geauga Lake was my babysitter, season pass and a bicycle.Resteraunts

Glad you made it out there. Seeing the Geauga Lake stuff is like taking a trip down memory lane. Geauga Lake was a big part of my family. I had family members that would go there all the time with their kids. Even I ended up going there once. Given how popular the park was & the history of Geauga Lake. I think they should turn the old ballroom into a Geauga Lake museum.

That steel vengeance model is so cool! It is a shame the guy never got the trains to run the course though. I remember talking to him a bunch of times when he was there trying to get the trains to work. That model was supposed to be a working model for anyone who doesnt know. I wondered both who won it, and how they got it out of CP since Tony said youd have to get it out.

Thanks for the video. That is a great collection of old amusement park pieces. I was surprised to see the old roller coaster car from Lenape Park which was set in a area next to the Brandywine creek. It was the first large roller coaster I rode as a child. Unfortunately it scared me so much since it had a rather rough ride and the old cars did not have any divider on the seats so when the train ran around the curves you or your riding partner slid into each other. It wasn’t till years later that I got to enjoy a larger coaster again at Hunts pier in Wildwood, NJ. That was a smaller wooden coaster but it got rid of my fear of coasters. So as I got older I rode many larger wooden coasters including some of the others you showed in this video. One of my favorite now dead coasters was the Blue Streak that was rough but had those three large hills after the lift that made for an exciting ride. I only got to that park a few times since I live outside Philadelphia but always recommended it to any coaster fans I met. Yes it also was a bit scary to ride due to its old age and minimal maintenance but always provided a thrilling ride. I also road on those old Dorney Park coaster cars. One last one you mentioned that I got to ride was the coaster you mentioned at Williams Grove. They also had an old shakey wooden coaster that was a fun ride. Thanks for sharing the memories of all those old parks and rides.

The topple tower from Marineland is long gone, it sat SBNO for a few years and was removed to make way for a new flat ride.

I'd like to go see this if they ever put it on display again. Were those cars from Euclid Beach sitting behind Sandy's? That's the only ice cream place I remember from back when I lived in Collinwood.

Canadohta lake had little rollercoaster, putt putt golf ⛳ and the 18 hole try to get the golf ball into the clowns nose for hole in 1. Moon rock were you jumping around little train turn handle, and boat ride too

You really should do an episode of Amusement Anthology on Shoot The Rapids sometime in the future. With it being a short-lived ride, and being the last ride Intamin would ever build for Cedar Fair, it definitely deserves its own episode.
