This video shows the process behind some DIY dumbbells that actually turn out really good. I would actually use these dumbbells in the gym.

I think you'd be surprised. If there is hard foam or rubber pads down, they can take drops pretty well. That assumes that the metal bar/ handle is at least 50% or more deep into the concrete. It's not really worth doing it on purpose(just in case) , and I definitely wouldn't drop them on a solid floor(like concrete), but accidental slips will not be the end of the dumbbell. 😄👍 I've used them before, but this just makes me want my own now that I bought my own place.

Why is that 5 KG so big? Here's why: I once tried to make my own dumbbells with concrete and cement, but the thing is that the weights turn out to be really big and hard to train with, because density of cement is 1.44 g/cm^3 and concrete is 2.4 g/cm^3 , while the density of iron is 7.87 g/cm^3 That means a 5 KG concrete dumbbell is 3-4 times bigger than the ones made out of iron. So imagine a 15 KG concrete dumbbell that looks like a 50 KG iron one! 💀

These things are terribly weak and an absolute waste of your money. The smallest fall will shatter it into pieces. The point is to avoid spending costly amounts for better quality metal Dumbbells, but in the long run you’ll have to likely buy 5+ pairs of these in a few years and spend way more than a metal pair will ever cost. People are so dumb and short sighted, it’s really sad. No one can see farther than a few seconds and a few inches in front of their eye balls. You’re an actual baboon if you think this is smart. Spend extra up front so you save more over countless years of using one singular pair.

And yes maybe it is not that big of a deal for 10-20 pounds but try doing hammer curls with a 35 with smooth handles, good luck with thatxd.
