Great video Cap'n. Doing my 45th birthday this summer in DC, then the Udder hazy in Chantilly, VA and then swinging by Gettysburg for a day or two.

Will never forget back in the sixties they named one the elementary schools after Eisenhower. He came for dedication in a helicopter and it landed in the field of the school. Was a very big deal back in those days.

Yo Capt! Some more interesting facts about Lincoln. The old Finnigans Wake; the second floor was called The Lincoln room and they had the actual doors of the funeral home where Lincoln had stopped in Philadelphia. The entire second floor had news paper clippings and paintings of the civil war.

Awesome. Went there when I was about 10. You’re a little bored with a history lesson at that age, but I remember still thinking it was pretty cool to stand where Lincoln stood.

Hey Captain. A few witness trees to the battle still exist. Also, a lot of local farms that still exist were used as hospitals and you can tour them. Battlefield Brew Works is a craft brewing company that occupies a barn that was used as a field hospital for confederate soldiers. It’s open for business.

Wow! Thanks for this video! I really need to visit Gettysburg. I love history. My father went to Gettysburg College, class of ‘57- he used to say he lived in the barracks when he attended. I’m in South Jersey so it’s not too far. A trip my husband and I can take.

If you haven't already done it you need to check out the area which was the site of the historic Pickett's Charge. If you walk the length of it and take note of the landscape you have to wonder what was going on inside General Lee's head to even think it was a good idea to have his men walk into the Gates of Hell. He was considered a great military mind but he must've been battling insanity that day.

I should add that my wife and I were there again in March of last year and we stayed several nights in the historic building located next door to the building where Lincoln slept and wrote the Gettysburg Address. Yeah, you could say we love that town/area :) One day I would love to hang around Devil's Den at night because there are some crazy stories from people who have done it.

I’m glad to see they still sell Confederate merch there, most other Civil War gift shops they got rid of all the Confederate merch, hats, belt buckles, books, little statues of Robert E. Lee, I guess they’re trying to convince people that only the North fought in the Civil War

Seems weird selling the enemy’s merch. It would be like the British war museum selling Nazi merch.

Too bad the rest of the country wants to erase history. How are people supposed to learn and reflect on it if you just act like it never happened?
@KWC33
@KWC33 7 ай бұрын
The confederacy should only be defended for historical purposes, and a learning tool and people that use it or support. It otherwise need to look at themselves a little more deeply, or at least be brave and honest with their true opinions. There’s no debate people see the confederate flag, as offensive as the swastika. Period
@VinnytotheK
@VinnytotheK 7 ай бұрын
I always found it weird that people would want to fly the confederate flag, especially people in Northern states. Even in the South though, still weird to me. That being said, I think it shouldn't be treated how Germany treats Nazi materials, as that's just censorship and doesn't really help anything. I think confederate flags and materials should be able to be sold and displayed for educational and historical reasons.@@KWC33
