He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Qobyz for that. The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. As a Kazakh he speaks Kazahk and Russian fluently. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. His and Dimash's collaboration created true masterpieces. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him.The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. He wrote this song and others especially for Dimash’s wide vocal range. Please react to Olimpico from his Arnau concert in 2019 next. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating. This song and this performance from this Arnau concert is my absolute favourite🥰 I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I always get breathlessness. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. If you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and is calling his army to a lost battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. I don’t refer to Dimash as a “singer”, but rather a vocalist. 24 years of training and practice + an initial gift. Were I a vocalist I would be extremely envious of this young man’s ability, and I would have an even greater appreciation of his seamless virtuosity.

We are used to the filters. This one is almost always blocked. I'm glad you used a filter. We also are used to people pausing to "react". The instrument is a Kobyz. ❤

Great that you were able to get this performance through. This is usually the most blocked of all his songs. The musical instrument is called the Kobys. The sacred Kobys is considered the oldest stringed instrument on the planet. I love this song. Dimash is able to draw our empathy in to foreign peoples displaced and forced to start again in "strange lands" The central peice is like a vocal painting of men, women and children and the final note of power is held for a full 20 seconds. Dimash swims regularly to practice breath control but we suspect a third lung hidden in that long frame somewhere🤭😅😂 Dimash is so creative. It has taken me 5 years to get to a point where Dimash no longer surprises. One suggestion... please always play the Dimash videos out to the end as many enjoy the fan interactions. Sometimes there are interesting tidbits or funny moments at the end. Eg. Dimash being swallowed by a mountain of flowers. Many cultures give flowers to show appreciation for artists instead of the Western standing ovations and tossing things cultural norms. 🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦

I would strongly recommend the song Ikanaide by Koji Tamaki, the 1989 performance. It is quite moving.
