Visited Meiji Shrine every trip I've made to Tokyo and love walking around inside. The shrine itself is lovely but walking around the back areas and the special garden really round out the experience.

+Perdomot Agreed. This is definitely a hidden oasis in a busy city. Even on the busiest weekend days in summer, most of the charming paths in the back are vacant.

I absolutely loved walking through Osaka Castle Park recently (the surrounding grounds). It had such an amazing atmosphere and the landscape was gorgeous! I even encountered a school marching band competition and street performers whilst there!

Wow what a relaxing video. A very good look at Meiji Jingu! THIS is my favorite place to walk in Japan. Fushimi Inari Taisha is a close second.

My favorite place to walk in Japan is in Kamakura near the Tsurugaokawa Hachiman-gu shrine in Kamakura. There is some very relaxing pathways and hills near the shrine that I found while waiting for the 流鏑馬 (yabusame) festival.

+Happy In Japan it's a great stop and not a very long train ride outside of Tokyo. I chose it over Yokohama to go to the annual reitai-sai since visiting festivals was important to me. It's in mid September, I'd recommend planning to go while something is happening. Kamakura feels like a small town yet there is so much to do. Also don't forget to see the daibitsu (giant Buddha) you can pay a few hundred yen to go inside it. It's awesome.

Thanks much for the feedback! Nice to get some ideas on where to improve. You're spot on. We used a SmartLav connected to my iPhone taped under my shirt (the lav, not the iPhone). Obviously this system was under-powered. Just wait till season 3 ;-) I've got a whole new audio set-up with real equipment. You can hear it in the voice over work of the Fuji Sea to Summit video. Audio is easily my weakest area about which I know almost nothing and am learning as I go. If you have any other critiques or constructive feedback I'd love to hear them! -Andrew

Ha! I was waiting for someone to notice. It was shot in a short rail attached to the top of a tripod with a time lapse rig (called the "Genie") which crawls along the rail at whatever speed I tell it to.

When I went there in April 2015, it was raining down sooo much. Went there on a week day, not knowing that weekends were when shit goes down.... Beautiful things are always there but people are mostly there on weekends. I know it's obvious now that I think about it but while on vacation, it's easy to forget that locals are not necessarily on vacation as well...

Thanks for another great video. Beatiful shots and great editing! Do you use glidecam or some kind of gimbal system when shooting "the moving shots"? Nice use of time lapse rig also :)
@HappyInJapan
@HappyInJapan 8 жыл бұрын
No way, it's all GoPro strapped to train cats. When that fails, yes I use Blackbird Camera Stabilizer for nearly all the moving shots. Glidecams I hear are the standard but my impression testing them out what that they were more difficult to adjust the balance, heavier, and harder to breakdown into my pack when not using. Really happy with the blackbird.

+Happy In Japan Yanaka was my first insight into a more traditional Tokyo with nice little house, several temples and shrines and splendid gardens. It was on my second day in Tokyo and my thoughts were: "I have found the Japan I was searching for". Also I recommend the very nice shrine near Akahabara.
