This brings tears to my eyes. Sad tears. I don’t know the circumstances of why these beautiful, grand beings are in captivity, though I do know that the world’s gorilla population is in danger because of poaching, encroachment on their habitats, and wars. I also know that most modern zoos do their utmost to provide the captives with a large, healthy, safe environment and are deeply cared about by those who work with and tend them. Nevertheless, it is so sad to see these magnificent creatures in captivity. 😢

We patronize them and don't understand how intelligent they actually are. They can't vocalize but their body language speaks volumes. They speak to us in sign language. It's all they have.

Jelani genuinely enjoys looking at the pictures! He is excited when he sees somebody he knows, and yes he does remember people ;-) He loves the company of hanging out with people and looking at their phones. The keepers have said that Jelani once had, if memory serves, a TV in his bedroom in the back. He did not look at it until people were around him! He genuinely enjoys human companionship!! He is an amazing being! I hope everyone gets the chance to hang out with him at least once!! It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you will never forget it!! You can feel his peaceful Soul when you hang out with him!! It is indescribable!! Much love from the Bluegrass State!!

People should have discussions while driving to the zoo about what they’re about to see. Animals caged because they are either endangered species and the need for conservation to protect the future of the species, as well as the breeding and reintroduction of animals back into the wild. They are necessary not only for the future survival of the animal, but to provide a human-animal connection, a bond with all all species. Theses institutions should require that people treat these animals with love, respect and compassion. Not banging and antagonizing their enclosures as we see all too often. It breaks my heart when I see parents ignoring children running unsupervised doing such things, and what these animals must feel and think. But it also fills me with joy when I see people connecting with animals, such as chimps, gorillas, dolphins, etc... in ways where you can see a 2 way positive interaction happening. ❤️. Anyways, that’s my 2 cents worth. Have a blessed day next time you visit a zoo or aquarium💟

To be fair, they have some of the best nutrition and healthcare of any animals available. There are horrible zoos, but you can’t deny that the workers, atleast in developed countries, care about the animals and try to provide the best habitats for them. Some, I wouldn’t say most are there because they can’t go back into the wild without danger. At least there, when you take your family you can teach your children the benefit of treating animals the right way and caring for all of earths creatures.
@mtlians

Slapping on the glass and taunting the animals is not the proper approach. It’s to broaden the horizons on young people to go into the animal field.
@mtlians
@mtlians 4 жыл бұрын
But fuck sea world. 100% fuck that whole idea. The workers may not be bad but the whole idea of keeping those animals is short pools for peoples entertainment is horrible. Aquariums are different. There, they are free from predators and have ample space to do what they like with vets and proper nutrition.

Hey kids.....those gorillas are ALL boys. Silverbacks waiting to be paired up with females. It's called a bachelor troupe. They're not mad. They're curious, but they don't go around with big toothy smiles on their faces. In the gorilla world, showing ALL your teeth is a sign of "Hey, I want to challenge you". Not a great idea. Show them your lower teeth and they will take it as play. Show them all your teeth and they will think you're challenging them. Just some gorilla etiquette that's actually important to know.

Watch enough gorilla videos and you'll see just how similar we are to them and vice versa. Only major difference is.....gorillas prefer keeping the peace unless it's absolutely necessary to defend their families. Alas, the same cannot be said for humans and chimps.

It is sad, it's sad that as a human race we cannot allow other species to live their life in peace where they belong... People think oh yeah it's great we rescue them from poachers, that is great, but humans need to respect the planets not just ours.. These animals have their freedom taken away, they are safe from poachers but at what cost? If you had to live behind bars for the rest of your life because someone might kill you,I'm sure you wouldn't think you were lucky .. Just wish humans would learn to respect all life... 😔

The Gorilla Forest at Louisville zoo is 4 acres in size and has dense jungle trees, a stream and pools. It has won awards. The bit you see here is where you can see them through glass, and they are free to wander in and out or wherever they please.

So that makes it ok to take them from natural habitats, for the simple pleasure that humans want to look and tap at them through glass!

Sigh. Tapping the glass. It's the least of it. I know these gorillas are critically endangered, but there must be another way for people to enjoy them. Pitiful enrichment to have to see a human with a tiny phone screen. Amazing dignity in Jelani
