Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns) joins us this week and shares his gratitude for being able to sustain a successful career in the arts for over 40 years, while highlighting the importance in open conversations about mental health along the peaks and valleys that come with it. Lou talks a lot about his experience in La Bamba - going from a day player to being Ritchie Valens, having just seven days to prepare the songs, and the biggest shock that came with his portrayal. We also talk about his pursuit for acting coming out of Texas, his hopes for a return to Young Guns, and the work ethic that propels him into so many different projects.

My dad worked up to the end of his life. He had cancer. He said it gave him something else to focus on, something else to do with his mind besides think about the fact he was dying of cancer. ❤️💔

i'm sorry for your loss now i've never met Patrick but from what i heard of the way he was thinking during his last years other than hearing on here he was just an inspiration to so many who had cancer or who have it or really any disease. his wife apparently got remarried a few years back good for her i think he'd want her to remarry. no doubt he told her too do so he seems like the kind of guy who would.

He had a strong attachment to smoking and found it difficult to quit, even after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He also stated that he would quit smoking when he felt like he might live longer than five minutes. Impact of Smoking on Health As a heavy smoker, Patrick Swayze’s smoking habits likely had a significant impact on his health. Smoking is a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer, and it’s estimated that up to a third of all pancreatic cancer cases are linked to smoking.
