Even without the lions, the buffalo would die a very slow painful death because of its leg being broken, so the lions are putting it out of its misery faster than starvation would.

Babe SwarmZz yeap, to be more clear, i meant that i think lionesses canines arent big enough to suffocate buffalos by bitting their trachea, thats why the male is almost always with the lionesses when they're hunting buffalos .sry for bad english tho. :D edit: and i think of that cuz buffalo's neck must have plenty of muscles

I just read the comments of the watchers and no one seems to be appreciating that this is a Wild Life Park where humans do not interfere no matter what. I have been there, and it's not so bad. It was 12 years ago and there were a lot less people around. The males try to protect the outer part of the group and are hunted down the most. Lionesses had a very particular way to get them and open them.

I don't care what others say this is all about survival , the lion would normally end the life of it's prey by going for the jugular vein but being a buffalo with his horns they go from behind , and for those of you who think this is cruel , yes it is but it is called survival and you knew what you were going to let yourself in for before you started to watch .

Oh i forgot to mention this Buffalo seemed to have had a rear broken leg , speculation to how it came about , my guess is that he was chased by the pride of Lions and likely slipped down the bank to get away and broke it on impact

+Terry Parker Actually, not true. Lions, being pack hunters, usually begin eating the animal while it's still alive, so they will get to eat as much as they can in regard to the other pride members. You see a similar behavior among canines. Solitary hunters, like leopards and cheetahs usually go for the jugular, while jaguars tend to strangle the prey by crushing its neck, having, relative to its size, the strongest jaw, and the strongest bite, of any felines.

These tourists being so close has a huge impact on the lions hunting methods. They were very wary of tourists and were a big distraction. The lionesses would have normally suffocated the buffalo to death . But they were uncomfortable with the tourist being in close proximity to their environment. Next time these tourists could help improve the situation if they all joined in with the meal just like Jim Carey in Pet Adventurer 😂

That's a female buffalo, you can see the udders at different points of the clip, the male buffalo was trying to help her out, but the female buffalo has a broken back right leg and therefore was doomed, had no chance to escape with that broken leg.

Animals are most vulnerable at their tails. Once animals lose their tails and injure their spine, they lost sense of balance. Sometimes they also latch of to mouth or neck to choke the animals.

Suffocation doesn't always kill the prey either, its purpose is to subdue it. The goal is to bring the prey down and stop it from struggling. If that's achieved, there is no reason for them not to eat already.

The circle of life. That buffalo came out of the marsh with a severely maimed right rear hoof, as well as it’s rear and tail being eaten on. It’s shorter life here means continued life for the lions... until hyenas come and run them off, or male lions, etc. This isn’t a guaranteed meal, if but a meal. It’s a jungle out there.
