Somewhere on Earth - Sunda Islands | Free Documentary
Somewhere on Earth - All episodes: • Somewhere on Earth | A...
We can dream of adventure on other planets that we may be able to colonize some day in the distant future... but for our children, Travel means our own planet Earth. Exploring different regions step by step, making encounters hand in hand... Discovering our Earth is a multi-faceted adventure... with no frontiers or limits except those of Man.
Somewhere on Earth spotlights places the world over where Nature has given free rein to its imagination and has taken the time to create breathtaking landscapes. These spots are often far removed from the great currents of the modern world and this isolation has long kept them sheltered them from the aggressions of human activity.

I'm from east Java province ,thank you for such beautifull video about my country . One thing that made me wonder how come "Javanese slave trader " in (13:24) ? Where did you get the information ? We never heard a history of slave trade in Java by Java people . There was BANDAN which mean when you lose in a war and captured so your king had to pay the ransom to set you free and if your king or leader did not paid the ransom you have to work for the victor but not for sale to others . If you surrender before the fight your enemy will not make you as prisoner or bandan . Forgive me for my harsh language and my lack of English writing . I'm waiting for your next videos of my country ,good luck .

*edit Sunda Island menjadi Sunda Islands.

This brings back memories when me and a couple of friends, planning & went to the Ujung Kulon National Parks on the early 2008.We stay at the rangers lodge & camp at the beach on our last night. Such a beautiful place you can find peacock, deer roaming freely in the beach. No rhinos encountered but we did spot their tracks, one of my best trip by far.

This is actually 3 stories from 3 different places and cultures in Indonesia, and can be quite confusing. The first (Thomas - Megalithic civ), is from Sumba Island, Sumba tribe (both use the letter "M"). It is located near Bali. Then the story of Made (a Balinese from .. well, Bali island. Any Indonesian could guess from his name alone :D ). And the last, story of / from Alain Compost about Javan Rhino in Ujung Kulon. Ujung Kulon is quite far from Bali and Sumba Island. Like 800 km away. What could be confusing especially for Indonesian is, the name "Sunda Islands" is exist, although it is rarely been used outside geography or school lesson context. In everyday life, Sumba and Sunda would refer to completely different places and cultures / tribes and actually quite far away. Sunda tribe (with the lettter "N") came from West Java province, near Ujung Kulon, and their "story" is not being told here (not meant as an offense, just a statement). PS: Look for Alain Compost in Facebook, he posted lots of his photos there.

Early human civilisation move together with earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, river floods and sandy coastlines.Fertile volcanic soil, very very long coastlines and abundant rainfall almost year round create a very long and diverse ethnics and cultural heritage across the Indonesian Archipelago. For us the video is only a brief intro because islanders practices unique way of life and the neighbouring islands my have totally different accestorial cultures and beliefs. Travelling across Indonesian islands ring of fire will tell you how civilisation adapt itself over thousand of years.
