Something that Gin believes will lead toranaga to victory. With her extensive experience dealing with men of his caliber and great warriors. She’s become a great judge of character and knowledgeable in military strategy.

Gin is key to the story. Glad they included her…. She is proposing Toranaga build the historical Yoshiwara district in Edo. He could be seen as trying to build something in Edo for his legacy….. and have her go there to select the land she desires, with the side mission of her to pass information to his forces in Edo that he is in jeopardy.

Gin is inspired by Shoji Jinemon, Founder of Yoshiwara, who is from Odawara,near of Izu. Historically, Jinemon has got approval from Ieyasu to run Yoshiwara red district.

My prediction may be that Toranaga is going to execute Crimson Sky from within which is the reason why he is currently surrendering so he can gain access. Because of the situation of his army and camp being demolished due to the environmental factor, he has to revise his plans on finding a different method to storm Osaka. Imagine this strategic plan like the Trojan House.

She based her fortune on being the lover of Yabushige's father, on saving all her money for when she was mature enough to be her own owner, on multiplying her businesses and allying herself with the powerful. Years of selling herself taught her to recognize real men and real power. Toranaga is everything, Ishida is a puppet.

It is clear that this scene is exposing to us viewers that Toronaga has a secret plan for victory. It also alludes to the question as to why Toronaga keeps Yabushige as his vassal when it is clear to everyone that loyalty is not his known trait.

The show has changed alot from the book if anjin is going to command the cannon regiment. It's totally stupid and impractical, How can be give orders during a battle????and he has never been in land battle in Japan . Teach the Japanese how to use the cannon and then Japanese generals adapt it to Japanese warfare.

@@stefanm9265 What? Ballistics are ballistics. It is easier to use cannons in a fixed postion than at sea. Yes, they changed aspects of the book, some of which were simply historically incorrect. It's an adaption. In the book Blackthorn trains the Japanese in musket tactics which doesn't make sense, so they altered it to training them in cannon ballistics which does make sense. All Blackthorn needs is a few words and phrases. In a battle, commands are fixed and consistent so to limit confusion. He doesn't need to be fluent in Japanese. In addition, command does not mean that he needs to constantly give commands and intervene. At times when needed he could intervene and even be hands on when necessary. Having an experienced commander that knows the weapons intimately is a plus. Moreover, Japanese warfare was mostly mounted archers (samurai) with infantry (ashigaru) that use spears (yari) and musket, and not cannon. At the battle of Sekigahara the cannon from Willam Adams (Blackthorn) were used. It isn't clear if he was at the battle, but probably not. However, it makes sense in a historical drama for one of the main characters to be active rather than pushed to the background.

Toranaga-sama is so full of sh!t. 😂 He is winning right now and not a single samurai can see through his plans. He doesn't trust anyone. Not even his own blood. He doesn't care about his son, he doesn't care about Mariko and he doesn't care about honor. He is willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to become the Shogun. Unlike the late Taiko, he does have the right to become one through his royal bloodline.

He declares ‘Crimson Sky’ and then pauses several times. He is masterful at dragging things out, and making his enemies show their hand. This Willow Madam in the book has a son who is a little crippled, but she negotiates him becoming a Samurai if she fulfills her promise to Toranago.

What Madame Gin is talking about is a place in Tokyo (Edo) called Yoshiwara. To this day it's the only place in Japan that the gov't legally recognises as a place were prostitution is permitted, even when prostitution is illegal in Japan. It's a place were the gov't keeps it's promise from the Tokugawa shogunate to this day. Yoshiwara is famous, and some of the only places in Japan where soaplands aka. tea houses can publicly advertise condomless vaginal insertion and internal orgasm.

Just wish they gave more screentime to how john blackthorne is going to help, he constantly asks to do things and has to stand down, I assume he has been doing things off screen or they are all going to put it together in the last episode just would be good to see the build up as feels slow paced at times, but I understand why they are doing this for the surprise factor

I don't know why the people who made this seem to dislike the book's text so much, or light, or color (seriously: why does everything look like it's shot at dusk on a rainy day?) And Toranaga loves the idea (IIRC, the end up talking for two sticks.... about 4 hours).

Also they changed it to fit context of the scene. His army is surrounded and hes in a bad spot and shes clearly calling out his feigned distress as she knows he isnt so dumb to make such a mistake. Shes clearly alluding to his greater plans and hes playing dumb. Its been some time now since his army was destroyed and hes considered all options considering his spies. Considering the context of the scene he doesnt have 4hrs to talk about this. At least he cant act like it.

hard to say without watching the rest of the series but she pretty much know that: 1) Surrendering is not the real plan, there is something else OR 2) Although he is surrendering (for real) to his half brother, there is an extra plan that Toronaga could use

@@leonardogodoy8687he’s not surrendering, his plan is to attack Osaka and liberate the hostages. She’s proposing the establishment of what would become the Geishas. In history he did allow that in Edo and they flourished in his reign.

My guess? She's implying the formation of an alliance between the Toranaga clan and a future courtesan's guild that would provide the former with valuable intelligence and the latter with job security. Toranaga dismisses this, but her basically calling out his trap in Izu, e.g. appearing to look weak to his half-brother, shows him the depth of the courtesans' natural insight regarding not only political, but military strategy.

@@MinecraftAddict991 you are exactly right here. She fully understands that there's more to Toranaga's strategy than just simple surrender. She demonstrates her cunning here, as basically proof that she can be valuable ally and spy. In exchange for a guild to be established in Edo, she's providing Toranaga with a spy network. Most customers to these establishments are Samurai and other high-ranking officials, the perfect substrate for information gathering.

Madame Gin is proposing an innovative, mutually beneficial, business and political arrangement profitable to both when Lord Toranaga becomes Shogun. She implies that she could have warned Lord Toranaga's enemies or loyal advisors of his cunning but she has not, and should be rewarded for her discretions. She is asking to be empowered to begin and to institutionalize what would become known as the Geisha guild. The new city to which she refers is Tokyo. Madame Gin is promoting her own abilities, suggesting that they align with Lord Toranaga's; expressing both faith in him and asserting her own magnitude.

This felt like the weakest episode so far. Not bad, just ultimately kinda forgettable. Not sure how I feel about the ending, it kinda felt like shock value for shock value.

Why? It was set up the entire episode with the conversation about beauty in death. Toranagas son has been impulsive the entire time and trying desperately to be like his father. He loves the fake story about Toranaga killing the samurai leader in a single stroke so he tries to copy him which makes it more tragic that his death is ultimately a total waste.
