It would help if a degree of accuracy was supplied with your material. As an Australian I can assure you that The Seekers were never forgotten - the fact that the US (and Billboard) has trouble looking beyond its own borders demonstrates the poor amount of knowledge that is displayed in some areas of this video. If you wish to check on The Seekers pedigree I suggest you include Morningtown Ride, The Carnival Is Over and A World of Our Own - the latter one made it to the Top 20 in '65.

My dad is still kicking in his late 80s but started show the summation of the damages done to him over the years. The Left Banke had another hit almost as big as “Walk Away, Renee,” called “Pretty Ballerina.” They have a major cult following to this day. They’re hardly forgotten. And from this video, it really is hard to tell when he’s talking about the Left Banke or the Flur Tops.
@kendenning65175 ай бұрын
They haven't been forgotten because we that live thru them still remember. What made them so good was the fact that there wasn't one type of sound. The types of music was as different as the next hit was to the last hit. You never knew what to expect, it was exciting. From the Who to the Beach Boys to Ledzepplin to the Beatles to Motown. All of it was different. We didn't realize how special of an era we lived in. We just assumed it would go on forever. It didn't, beginning in the 90s. And all of it was original, really good music. Now it all sounds the same, both so-called rock & country. What's amazing to me is a lot of today's newer music is trying to sound like the 60s-80s but is still trying to sound like today's top 40. It doesn't work. It's ripping off the oldies and butchering the music. The rest is the same old same old. What a great time it was to live in. There will never be a period like those 30 years ever again. No matter what you think of us old goats, we had the best music ever.
@grizwoldphantasia50055 ай бұрын
What I miss most about that era's music was that radio stations, including KSAN you mentioned, played everything -- Jim Kweskin's Jug Band, Alice's Restaurant (the full 18 minutes without interruption), Jefferson Airplane, all the songs you mentioned. It was a variety you can't get now. Spotify and such don't have any of that eclectic mix.

i can't help but notice how many of today's "artists" are putting out songs with 2, 3 or more names listed as performer. seems like they can't have much success on their own. this REALLY dilutes whatever they are releasing. as long as someone is buying it- that's all they are gonna get...

Thank you! I'm not the only one who thinks good music died in the early 90s. I especially think grunge was the final nail in the coffin. All that doom and gloom after the fun music of the 80s. 😭 Thank God for classic rock radio.
@kendenning65174 ай бұрын
@Mick_Ts_Chick spot on about grunge. After Nirvana, everybody started to copy them. Maybe 1 or 2 of their songs were good, but the rest wasn't much to listen to and sounded like the last song. Then everybody sounded like them, and it was over.

The Left Banke made so many good songs that I discovered a couple of years just before the pandemic. My daughter when she was 4 actually became a fan of “Pretty Ballerina”. When I played it, she used to pirouette to the song and when it finished, she’d ask me to play it again. They were a solid band. Too bad they didn’t last. They had beautiful songs.

“Reach Out of the Darkness,” “Western Union” and “I See the Light” were absolute favorites that you don’t hear. What’s sad to me is that classic rock and pop music from the sixties and seventies has been whittled down on so many radio stations to maybe a top 100 or so songs, if even that many. We had such great music, then, but often many songs were favorites in one part of the country, and less so in another. It’s a shame that they aren’t played along with the rest. The radio stations have become as boring as Top 40; you hear the same songs played over and over again, while you rarely or never hear any of the rest. In some cases great writers and performers are never played no matter how many great songs they’ve written. It’s a shame.

The seekers were the first live concert i ever saw at melbourne australia's music bowl in the botanical gardens in summer 1966 when i was 9 years old, with my mother, and my school teacher Mrs.Spapens and my grade 4 class with parents.

The Young Rascals, The Seekers and the Four Tops are legends. The problem is radio stations only play top 40 from the late '70s and up.

There was a whole slew of good music from the late 1950s to the late 1970s. It's really hard for me to choose a favorite, as that depends on my real-time preference, which is sometimes based on mood or the type of day I've had.

The first song on your list, Red Rubber Ball by The Cyrkle, you say is still played on “Oldies Radio Stations” , if that is the case how can it have “Vanished”. Just for the record the other songs have not vanished either. Someone has not done their research and homework.

The Rascals sure havent vanished. Finally getting more traction on KZfaq that they deserve.Felix is still performing mid 70s. I agrre onr of my favorite songs ever Reach out by.Friend & Lover did vanish. To me Walk away Renee is better than the Four Tops version. I absolutely loved Shame Shame by the Magic Lanterns in 68; has vanished. One thing im 100 % certain i never hear any of the cool songs by Sir Douglas Quintet ever Mendocino, Rain and more . Lastly very little from the great group the Buckinghams, very confused 🤔

Yes I have heard of The Seekers because to this day they are one of the most highly regarded acts in Australia. By the way, Red Rubber Ball, (which was covered a number of times), was co-written by Seekers member Bruce Woodley. Woodley stated that Simon tried to buy him out and claim full composing credit. Even though Woodley refused to go along with it, he still struggled to get royalties from the song.

Love, Turn Down Day, and Red Rubber Ball. great number., Love Walk Away Renee. Another great song. Four Tops had their own hits Reach Out was a favorite. . Geogry Girl was a great number used in the movie of the same name. Enjoyed the Rascal's, the Spoonfull, the Byrds did great Dylan covers. Donavan had a string of hits. Songs like, A Whiter Shade of Pale, and Nights in White Satan graced the New York airwaves, Getting Good Vibrations from the ever creative Beach Boys, we have barely scratched the surface as to how great the sixties music was. Increadible, so many excellent songs, Like a renascence in music and technology.
