AMAZING TAKE OFF - KLM BOEING 747 at SINT MAARTEN AIRPORT - Low Landing above Maho Beach

4 жыл бұрынSpectacular take off of this Boeing 747 of KLM at Sint Maarten. Till todays this is still one of the most iconic B747 clips I have ever filmed. The B747 of KLM departing from paradise airport SXM while we were standing on the mountain right behind the runway. The 747 had to turn to the right after takeoff because of the terrain. Too sad we won` t be able to see the Boeing 747 at Maho Beach anymore because KLM downgraded the flights to an Airbus A330-200 and right now even Air France doesn` t operate the A340 anymore to SXM. The biggest plane which currently operates at SXM is the A330. It` s time for an EK Airbus A380 connection between SXM and DXB.

My husband and I spent our vacation on St. Maarten one year and quite a few times we would go down to the airport to see the planes ✈️ come in and take off. It is really breathtaking to see how low they come in...barely clearing the fence! But the most exhilarating sight was the KLM 747 coming in from Amsterdam, however, they have discontinued that flight quite some time ago. Thanks for sharing this video...it brings good memories back.

Telephoto lenses compress the foreground considerably. the runway is 7000' long. It probably looks half that with the zoom effect.

Love those 747’s! For anyone wondering, the Airbus A380 can also land and takeoff at Sint Maarten airport, as the A380 has lower takeoff and landing speeds, and lower runway length requirements! Great video, excellent footage! 👍🏻

yet they can only take off there when quite low on weight. the klm 747 did go to curacao for a refuel, inbefore crossing the pond if i remember correctly

Airbus A380 may be able to land at St Maarten but don't think the Airport infrastructure has been upgraded to handle pax and luggage/cargo requirements. Airports around the world spent millions to upgrade their infrastructure to cater for A380, so sad, soon all these will amount to nothing.

Great editing too. Because, note that pilot’s air speed coming in. I mean I know some of it is the camera angle...but that plane had to be above the recommended speed for that short runway. Birds are like...”duuude, slow down!”

Risk of tailstrike must be high on take-off. The runway seems relatively short. Pilots (I guess) are likely to be conscious of the hills ahead and of the need to climb steeply . . .

What a cool place. Paradise. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like there’s little margin for error at the airport. Takeoff toward a mountain; the ascents look relatively steep. Seems like a short strip for landing 747s and 777s (not going by the skewed length from the telephoto lens).

At 1:30 it does not seem that the young lady is aware of the approaching vehicle. If she had stepped or stumbled backward she would have gotten a bumper rash. Also, KLM seems to have a certain affinity for the 747. I have seen other videos with KLM flying the type. Most other air carriers seemed to have moved on to newer airframes.

No they stop flying Pawa many years ago because of the Md80 and also Insel Air was bankrupt so SXM doesn't have any Md-80 anymore
