Man That Dug Up An 800 Pound Emerald Had To Go Underground Out Of Fear For His Life

Wealth (usually) comes to those who work for it. Still, most of us would rather not think about it that way. After all, it’s so much more satisfying to dream about stumbling upon a briefcase containing millions of dollars while poking around the alley next door! And while that remains a fantasy for most of us, for one Brazilian man, it wasn’t too far from reality.
The man had been working in a mineral-rich mine in Bahia, Brazil, when, a few hundred feet underground, he found something he didn’t expect: a treasure! But while the discovery had him jumping with glee, he soon realized that the trouble and consequences that followed would be costly…

@georgeford6056
@georgeford6056 6 жыл бұрын
At first hearing, you might think that. A lot of these mines work on contract, as in the person doing the mining pays the mine for the right to work there for a 1/2 day (12 hours) and the mining company provides basic services (like the lift bucket). He was probably working a tunnel someone else had dug, made what they thought was enough money to live on for awhile and gave it up just a few feet from the big find.

This is what is wrong with the world today, selfish greedy people. The cause of the day is only to put on a good show and forgotten tomorrow. It is not about pats on the back, praises for public viewing, nor 15 minutes of fame. It is doing good for another without all the flamboyant approvals and look at me I'm special. The world needs more caring for the right reasons.

Watch "The $100,000,000 Penny" video here on KZfaq. That's a lot of money. Three times that much is a ton of money. My point is this: I probably couldn't spend it all myself without working hard to do it. I'd share it with family. Drop enough into an interest bearing account and live comfortably off the interest. Then, I'd go off grid. A nice cabin in the wilderness somewhere. Monthly supplies brought in by bush pilot. Then again, an island in the south pacific would do nicely. Hell, all things considered, let someone else find the damn thing. My life is adequate as it is in spite of the fact that I'm a homeless veteran.

Sometimes it's hard to afford things. I'm doing the best I can day to day. I'm in the care if the VA now. Trying to get some skills for a new career through voc rehab. Probably TMI but I don't mind sharing my truth as long as ppl get it. Have a great 4th of July, it's not just a holiday, it's a holiday for everyone! Freedom, priceless.

The thing is the value of each induvidual piece would not sum up to the value of one whole piece, as stated. It is so valuable because of 2 things: It's size/mass; The quality of gemstones. In this case it is SO RARE to find a gemstone of this size, but chopped up it is more common, therefor - less valuable

The quality of the emerald was not substantially high. The crystals weren't very gemmy. Top specimens from Colombia and Zambia are worth more -- they're substantially nicer, gemmier, and smaller. Sure, there were a lot of crystals on this piece, but there's NO WAY it would ever be worth anything close to 320 million.
