She seemed to get better at peeling as the video progressed. The next harvest season she’ll be flying through them. I did only a few two years ago and couldn’t wait until the next year. Unfortunately, the frost really damaged much of the young tree but it’s making a really nice come back this year. So hopefully we can make a few more this fall. Beautiful family and wonderful video!

Could you tell me climatic condition necessary for persimmon?

Asian persimmons are native to warm temperate and sub-tropical climates, but they can tolerate some cold weather and heavy soils, depending on the rootstock. 'Fuyu' and 'Hachiya' will thrive in Zone 7 and warmer. 'Hachiya' does especially well in California. Here in Iwate we are a 'cold' Zone 7, and the persimmons do amazingly well!

Is it necessary to peel them? The skin is as thin as tomato skin, peeling is too labor intensive. In China they are flattened into a disc about 2cm thick and then dried.

If you don't peel them, they don't dry fast enough and the whole fruit turns mushy. Maybe because it's too humid in Japan?

@@Eric.Carter But if they're flattened into a disc first, the skin would split open in numerous spots, that may be enough to dehydrate them in a windy location. This also increase the surface area and reduce the distance of the center to the surface, speeding up the drying.

@@tkjho good idea! Will have to look into it! I wonder how they flatten it? With just a board and weight? Or with a specific type of press?
