Veronica-Lynn Pit Bull the amazingly smart pit bull performs her fancy tricks (that would be her intermediate level tricks). Tricks include fetching a tissue, saying Grace, performing a cupboard retrieve (i.e. helping in the kitchen), taking a time out in her crate and putting her toys away in her toybox.
Veronica has been trained with completely force free positive training - verbal markers, the clicker, bridge and target and plenty of treats. She typically carries her tail on the downside. It is generally always down when she is focusing and concentrating. When her tail is up and wagging...it can be a good thing, or it can be a not so good thing - it depends as much on the context in which the behavior occurs as it does on the actual behavior : )

No. No, it only shows it's learned behaviour and there's absolutely NOTHING special or "precious" about it. The dog cannot _actually_ understand human language or has the slightest inkling of what it is doing. It's just acting out a trick. And the irony is, the guy "takes his name in vain" like 1 second after the trick..... And no one gets smited... (and NOOOO, you don't have any eye witness reports of people being smited here or any imaginary location)

My pit is the smartest, most gentle dog I've ever had. Talks , watches TV and sings ... has to be part human. I trust my best friend with my life. Your dog is so intelligent. I've got to teach mine to grab a beer now.

Kate Eastin I have too. my oldest pit made it to 16 years. I grew up with a other types of dogs, poodles, labs, pits, (a total of 8 dogs and all rescued, puppies and seniors) and not one had a bad bone in their bodies. only thing I hated was the farts. and until today, I've continued to rescue and Foster.

@@brendapina1356 16 is quite something ...what was the secret to that kind of age? I thought mine was going to live to 15 or 16 and then all of the sudden, at 13, her body just started breaking down on her. So her last year wasn't happy for her most of the time. She died at 14 and 3 months.

Thank you! I was really surprised and horrified to learn that because of the way Veronica carries her tail, allot of people thought I used punishment based training methods and that she was unhappy! I can understand making the assumption not knowing me or the dog; I'm just so used to Veronica's temperament I never thought about how an outsider would view it. V. is sweet and a little timid and has genetic anxiety issues; so trick training is really good for her confidence. (Of course she is also reactive and dog aggressive and she certainly knows how to channel her "inner Cujo" when the mood strikes ; p)

Beautiful animal. I had a pit that was a genius. He lived in the house with us for fourteen years. He passed away six years ago, we still miss him. RIP Big Boy, we love you!

For every commenting about being upset to see a dog doing tricks please know that while pit bulls were initially bred for bullbaiting, they evolved into farm dogs and worked on farms as well as being a family companion. This means pitbulls have certain character traits, one of which is the desire to work. Pitbulls can become very unhappy and destructive when they don't feel like they have a job to do. What looks like mere tricks is actually building the dog's confidence, making her feel needed and making her feel valued by being able to use her smarts and learn things. I had always heard that dogs were color blind but I taught my pitbull different colors so I don't think it's true that they're color blind. Any way I've grown up with pitbulls and they're much happier they're able to learn different things.

douglas carpenter Pitbulls were literally bred to to bite bulls (and other large animals) around their head and then later in the 1800s bred for fighting instead. Stop rewriting history moron. These dogs are dangerous, full stop. You can bring the dog up with love and proper discipline, it helps reduce the chances they'd attack others but it doesn't completely suppress their nature. Hence the piling amount of cases where Pitbulls unexpectedly attack despite a proper upbringing. A responsible owner would muzzle the Pitbull in public and either keep it away from small children or be there to supervise at all times.

Foreal man you are stupid... In the seventies it was the devvarman Pinscher in the 80s it was the Rottweiler there is always a dog under attack it is the owners that raise that dog.... I have 6 pitbulls they are not even good guard dogs they will lick you to death they are aggressive against other dogs.
