Real trail test ride of the Amazon dirt bike Templar 250 sold by Xpro the makers of many different Chinese pit bikes like the Storm 150 DLX. This Templar offers decent quality for the bargain cost of $1399 total with shipping was $1700 to my door. This is a Dual sport motorcycle meaning I got a plate to ride on the street as well as offroad.

I appreciate that these bikes make it cheaper and easier for more people to get out on the trails and enjoy the sport. Sure, maybe they're not right for everyone - but they're right for lots of folks, whether it's a long-term bike, or just a stepping stone to something else. Plus the more people that buy them, the better the quality continues to get.

You cannot beat that Templar price.. but for $1K more ($2800 in mid 2024) you can get the Lifan KXP250. I'm very impressed. Fuel Injected, Overhead Cam, Claimed 20HP, 6 Speed, Fuel Guage. Full Size. Suspension is Very Good once you set the rear spring. Starts right up every time, good electrical system. I think it's worth the extra money, for a knock around bike.

I have the 300cc version of that engine in my Hawk 250. The transmission “notchiness” will ease up after a few hundred miles. Initial break in is at 500 miles, then at @ 1000 miles, that engine will start to really sing!

Great weight and price comparisons versus some of the other 150, 200, etc small dual sports out there. Dealers were marking up the XT250 to over $7,000 a couple of years back. Crazy! Ended up paying huge dealer markup on an XR150L for my daughter mostly for brand name for her sake, but I would have been just as happy with a Templar. BTW, the Templar X just came back in stock today at X-Pro!

It's funny when you mentioned people who say 4 strokes are for beginners and 2 strokes are for experienced riders. That's funny because my very first dirt bike back in 1982 when I was 15 was a 2 stroke RM125. Back then everybody rode a 2 stroke, beginner or not, because that's what was popular and affordable. A brand new RM125 was 1325 dollars brand new. I remember because I had to work all summer to pay for it. But anyway, I really like that Xpro 250 and I'm seriously thinking about getting one. I ride in Colorado mostly on mountain trails and high altitude. It would be nice to get a larger dirt bike, although my current DRZ125L has performed flawlessly, especially on the really tight and nasty stuff. It's just so light and nimble. I've ridden the heck out of that little bike for the past five years but I'm wanting just a little more climbing power where I don't have to crawl up the really steep stuff in 1st gear all the time. I mean it works fine, but more power would be nice.

Thank you Mike for looking at these bikes for what they are. I have name brand bikes for singletrack and trials riding and find myself grabbing the little Templar X quite often as it just takes me back to riding as a kid on old Honda XR's where you could override the bike at will. It was pure fun. Mine is a year old now with zero failures and while that isn't Honda territory it's a good start.

These Chinese motors are great nowadays, from what I've heard alot of them just take outdated honda/kawi/ etc blueprints and make carbon copies. Only thing that worries me is electrics and bearings and such but at that price point it's no deal breaker. Totally agree with your 2 stroke opinion too, they just need constant pampering, an air cooled 4 stroke might not be as much fun as a snappy smoker but might end up on a crf250f in the future just for the simplicity...

Hi Mike, another great video! I'm having a great cup of coffee that I brewed with my Chinese made Hydroflask insulated French press. I buy non Chinese as much as possible but that Hydroflask press is about a third of the cost of a US made one, it's just reality. As far as 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke, my Dad always steered us to the 4 strokers for reliability and longevity.

Well done talking about the bike through the entire ride -not sure that's something I would try😉 One thing I wanted to share after just procuring a '23 Hawk DLX is that the correct term for these is actually "Enduro sport", not "duel sport" like I originally thought -or that they mean the same thing. Duel sport denotes motocross capable bikes that have been made street legal with lights and mirrors and such. Enduro sport properly defines these bikes that you and I have as being much more tamer versions not meant for Evil Knievel stunts and jumps of a duel sport. My take away is that you do not want to exceed the limitations of these bikes -keeping all of that in mind. I always go with "bumps -not jumps", anything beyond that is at your own risk
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 28 күн бұрын
Hope you enjoy your new bike 👍 I have been calling this style bike a dual sport for the past 30 years along with just about every one of my friends. Probably will stick with the term. People have called them enduros as well, that seems to come about back in the 70s. Dual sport refers to dual purpose street/offroad.

I had an earlier model a Roketa 200 dual sport 07' model, it was very durable and never let me down. Only problem is you have to know how to work on bikes and do everything yourself. Also getting parts can be a chore, specially after you owned it for a few years. I couldn't get the plastics for mine anymore or the air filter so I had to start modding it to make stuff work. All the Name brand bike dealers wont touch them either if you need work done, that has been my experience with mine. Getting it registered was a bit tricky and make sure you get the MCO with it or your screwed getting it licenced. Thats Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin for those that don't know. Welds were a bit rough and bearings, seals, but mine was a Honda clone so some of the Honda parts worked. Can't beat the price though, and they seem to be getting better quality. 👍

I love mine though because I love the price and I love working on bikes and fabrication to make this bike better. Only thing to do next is the suspension. Wheels are honda. Design is ktm...Including rear shock. Finding after market parts like disc protection...motor protection is hit and miss. I mean back in the 60’s- and 70’s, JAPANESE bikes were considered throwaway bikes by large groups of riders, especially because they were siginifigantly cheaper than American or Euro bikes at the time! I think the people complaining would be appalled at how many Chinese products they themselves buy if they had the tiniest amount of self-awareness.

Haha yes I have pointed this out to some of them and it just adds fuel to the fire 🔥 they get extra mad. There’s a lot of people that love to tell others what they are doing wrong but ignore the fact they are doing the same thing. Thanks for checking out my new video and commenting 😊👍

Looks like fun. Looks like a good solution for an extra bike for spouses, or friends for that price. Curious if it has any emissions stickers, stamps on the pipe, or VIN numbers to allow registration as is needed in most of the States for riding on public lands. A lot of the hate comes from what has traditionally come from China, terrible welds, bad metals, poor assembly. It really comes down to QA and QC. There usually isnt any for most of those companies. Ive been to many Chinese factories doing inspections and have seen this a lot first hand. Heck, Im sure a lot of the Japanese or even European bikes are actually 95% made in China, but if you are on them to make it right, its just fine. Just cause it says made or assembled in Taiwan, Japan, etc that doesnt mean much. Ive seen them walk products on the back of a bike and import them from different countries just to say its made or assembled there.

Thanks Chris! Yes I think I’m going to start on the 150 video this weekend 👍 The cabin is good, took a bit of a break from it, just started on the siding again, then jumping inside to start the wiring 😊

really tempting compared to the klx 300 or honda 300 dualsport. the honda is even hard to find at my local dealerships. i was in the market for a quad in 2021 and my buddy told me about this brand CFMOTO. a chinese company that was thousands of dollars less than the competition. so i went for it and got the 1000cc overland quad. overall i am very impressed with the build quality. sure, the suspension isnt as plush as a polaris but it has plenty of power and we will see how it holds up over the years. i was always skeptical about chinese powersports because they were pretty junky. but they have definitely stepped their game up.

One thing I have noticed, is alot of bolts come loose. Once you have about 300 miles on it, you will start to bottom out the suspension, and the brake pads will need to be changed for safety.

I always laugh when you hear all the crap from people about these bikes. 99% have never even had any experience with them. If asked, it's like "yeah, my uncles friends wife's brother had one 25 years ago and it was junk!" Are they as good as a Japanese bike? no, but they are certainly not crap. I've had an Orion RXB-250cc that I bought in 2019 that's been perfect. I don't ride it into the ground and I take good care of it, but nothing's ever broke and it's never left me stranded. I bought 2 Apollo RFZ DB X-18 125cc at the same time for my boys and nothings ever broken on them than wasn't the fault of my kids (i.e Broken brake levers and such from crashing). I did upgrade the carburetors on the two 125's after a few months, but other than that nothing has ever broken or failed.

Right on 👍 thanks for checking out my videos and commenting. Yes you are right, most of the negative people that don’t like these bikes haven’t ever even rode one, or they owned the cheapest Chinese pit bike 15 or 20 years ago. Take care 😊

this is just what I'm looking for price wise. I've been looking at the Kawi 450 type but it is way more than I need to spend on something I would only use for just putting around the forest on, not racing, just sight seeing. I hope they have larger models for taller people.

don't think you can do a comparative review that will yield any difference within the first n years. we know corners were cut for price point but where and is it relevant for use? time will tell. I'd like to see what your take is on it after you've done a few maintenance cycles.

It would be interesting to figure out which engine they copied for this bike. Maybe with minimal investment more power could be coaxed from it, same thoughts about the suspension too.

Sure, the bike has only like 5 hp at the most but there’s nothing wrong with the Chinese. They are cheaper because they’re made with cheaper parts. That’s why you’re getting a brand new 250 cc for under two grand a 250 of a reputable brand is about $8000. Get what you pay for.. I have dirt bikes and they are fantastic once you upgrade them a little bit, you won’t be winning no drag races and you ain’t going up any steep passes for the most part but if you just trying to ride, they are perfectly fine
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 16 күн бұрын
They seem to be fine. So far the bike is still holding up well especially for the price. Haha it’s not a power house but makes more than 5 HP. I think it’s about 18HP or so stock 👍
