I am having a 2k monitor! Should I buy a 4K or 1080 fire stick? Will it play 4k in my 2k display if I buy 4k stick?

No, If you play the 4k video in 2k monitor, the video will start playing but it does not display 4k resolution your monitor automatically downgrade the video and display the highest possible resolution based on your monitor resolution, 4k is hardware dependent so u need 4k display to play the perfect 4k video
