Hi Vicky! Thank you for this video!!!!! Our son Sawyer is 3 now and we live in the US. We were planning to buy the normal kids tablet for his 3rd birthday and accidentally ordered this tablet. Because this was his birthday present we didn’t really feel like sending it back and buying the normal version because he is just too cute and had been talking about it since his birthday. So sending it back we knew would break his heart. So we had to come to love it and we realized that if we at least sit with him while he uses it since it is meant for kids ages 6-10….and so far he has done well with it. We love the parental controls, we shut off the controls for internet because he is only 3, we set it at the lowest age range which is 5-6 for content, and we love how you showed us that you control the tablet from your phone. Thanks again for creating this video! You were WAY more helpful than the Amazon Reps!!!!!! He loves his birthday present and we got the Cyber Blue Case

Your theory is unfortunately incorrect. We have the kids versions, but through the parent portal i can adjust the ages so my eldest daughter has access content for older kids. I honestly thought a lot of the content was a little too mature for my daughter, so i removed the amazon kids app and use the parental controls through a parent profile. It offers a lot more control and access to content she likes and utilizes instead of tons of junk apps. My question is, does the pro version process things faster? The kids versions have been SO sow

No judgment or anything, this is meant as a compliment. You should do a video with vampire fangs: your mouth and smile have this natural anime look, especially the corner of your smile, how it naturally slightly curves up.

The mode is supposed to change with the age of the child, but clearly, it didn't. But, since you set up the pro, it changed automatically. If you went to the parent dashboard (the website) and selected adjust age filter and theme, you could have changed it. The new theme has been out for a few years, it just didn't change.

So when we first bought the pro the Amazon description comparison table between the tablets clearly showed the non pro didn’t have store access. It does now. But the pro still shows as having filtered web access which the non pro doesn’t. However from the day I bought the pro our non pro tablets switched to all the same features of the pro with zero change in their profile of age. I explained this at length to Amazon customer services and they couldn’t explain it.

What parents should know when choosing between the 8 and pro 8 kids is that ultimately they might as well get the Pro even for a younger kid, then set the parental controls to the younger age group so they're not seeing the apps for older kids.

Are the parental controls only for the kids+ subscription?

Yes those controls only work for the kids profile when using Kids +. You can't pause the tablet when being used in an adult profile.

It would because you can still set the age limits on it and switch off access to the store, so you'll still be able to limit them to the toddler apps only.

I have the fire kids 7 but looking to upgrade to an 8. The 7 has store access, expanded content and filtered Web access. I'm assuming both versions of the 8 now have this as well? I prefer the chunkier case.

There’s basically zero difference between pro and non pro 8 apart from they come delivered with preset age filters, pro for bigger kids over 6 and non pro for 5s and under. But you can change all settings in the app. If you prefer the chunkier case then maybe consider the non pro 8 as you won’t be getting any better hardware. Only the 10 pro kid has better hardware. Hope that helps!

Hey, so Amazon markets its Pro tablet as being for the school age kids, however having now had both a Pro and a non pro you can actually set the pro up so it doesn't have any store access (not that there's anything hugely controversial in the Store) and you can set the age range so that it shows content just for age 4 and under. So on that basis, knowing what I know now, I would probably just buy the 8 Pro (it's the same price as the non pro, or was when I checked last). Yes there are some good learning games on there for maths and English, and books as well x

So does it need your card when first setting it up? Do i need to worry about my child buying things or does it matter?

When our tablets arrived they were already set up linked to my Amazon account with our Prime profiles. If your child attempts to buy anything you get an email asking you if you approve it, you then head to the parent dashboard where you can either reject or approve the purchase. Or you can ignore it. You will always be notified when they try to buy and you can choose whether to enable in app purchases or not

The covers are easily removable. I'm not sure if Amazon sells them separately.

I’ve not tried to do this myself, I don’t think you can in the kids profile. Not sure about connecting it via an adult profile as have never tried this. Sorry I can’t be more help

On Netflix my kid won’t watch anything inappropriate because she doesn’t like the show and movies that are made for adults because it scared her she only watched kids movies and tv shows

Yes you can. Just to add that when your kid is in KZfaq the Amazon Kids filter doesn't stretch to that content, so once you've added to the tablet be aware that whatever they watch in KZfaq isn't filtered content.
