There was a new study and the best food to feed is live insects such as mealworms and crickets. This is their diet in the wild. And use sand substrate because when they sift through the sand, that will grind their teeth. Less than 5% of their diet is snails and things like that.

Do you have a link to it?

Last study I saw ~24% of their diet was mollusks and 60ish percent was insects, the rest various little odds and ends like small fish
Some people say they do but mines have never really been interested

Do they puff up
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do if they get scared. I’ve seen one of mines puff up once

I have 6 SAPS. All of a sudden gone off their food but nothing has changed. Water changes done regularly and parameters good. Just not interested in anything I give them. Also glass surfing again more than I would like :( do you think they are fed up with their tank mates? Could it be lack of space? Could it be my lights are too bright as they calm down when the lights dim in the evening. I'm so worried they are stressed! Thanks in advance

What size is the tank? Is there plenty plants and hardscape in the tank?
@gemmahhh7343 Жыл бұрын
35 gallon tank. It's fully aquascaped with live plants, rocks and wood.

It’s maybe on the smaller side but wouldn’t explain their change in behaviour? If they calm down with the lights dimmed try and feeding them when the lights are dimmed. You could also try live foods like blood worms or mosquito larvae to try and get them eating again.

You forgot to mention that they need to be moved to brackish waters as they age.

You’re thinking of Green Spotted Puffers. Amazon puffers are fresh water pufferfish. In the wild they do migrate to brackish areas for small periods of time but in the aquarium hobby they should be kept in freshwater. I’ve had mines for over 4 years
