Seems like they perform an extremely specific task. Fair enough if moving those pre-packaged carts around is a big deal in those warehouses, I would have no idea. Interesting to see what other robots they will introduce to this system to make it work more autonomously.

Yeah it doesn't seem very efficient. They seem a bit slow 🦥

Humans will get tired moving that size load around the warehouse. Have to take a phased approach - they have packing robots and transportation robots. Both of which significantly minimizes the costs incurred by having low-skilled humans doing it instead, making your goods cheaper and delivered faster.

@@TommyVercettisGamingNews The speed isn't such a big deal, considering they can simply add more robots and have multiple carts being moved at the same time, negating any speed concerns. But another video I saw, since leaving my original comment, shows that they have arm-like robots moving boxes into and out of those bins. That's a crucial part of automation eco system, so that definitely makes THESE robots much more valuable.

Brother, you have no idea how robotics equipped warehouses operate these days. The entire floor is operated with these robots and pick and carry towers of product to individuals on the outskirts where they take the product in them or out them. It is a HUGE deal. The pathing algorithms and engineering behind these things is nothing short of astounding. Efficiency and throughout is more than 30 times human operated warehouses. The arm robot you mentioned don't even interact with these things as well, that's another system with other type of robots. There are many other robots already. These robots are faster, more efficient, and they have no need for any sort of benefits that humans require. How do I know this information? I work in the robotics industry for these robots specifically. These robots are in particular are revolutionary because being able to travel in curves and diagonals instead of a grid pattern is HUGE.

I would think it would be much faster/easier to deploy, and would allow much greater flexibility in the adhoc paths that get created to get task done. Ie. no need to goto end of row and then over, when it can just take advantage of a gap and cut across however works. I also think that once they are producing them in bulk, preconfigured lines in ground would just seem like an unnecessary expense.

this one doesnt follow a set line everytime, it can go anywhere on the floor and it wont run people over like the yellow ones because it has sensors to detect things around it

After all these years, I should've *known* ... It's just like when AC was finally only introduced to manufacturing floors when the machinery started to be partially automated and monitored by computers. For at least a quarter century after AC had first been invented, the thinking of factory owners was like "Screw the blue collar human workers, they're so desperate for the income and it's so cheap and easy to replace them because there are so many of them...Let them swelter in the high heat and humidity." But luckily for us, the computers couldn't work properly unless a perfect climate (that also THANKFULLY just happened to be comfortable for humans) was maintained on the factory floors. *Fast forward around 35 years to Amazon's warehouses...* The case of the 1980s and 90s manufacturing computers versus the blue collar human workers has now REVERSED... That is to say, blue collar human workers are more rare than they used to be, and so have become far more expensive to onboard and maintain than automated systems. So, what I had originally thought were process and equipment improvements to ultimately make the job easier and safer for us *human* Amazon workers over the long term, actually turn out to be improvements made for the sake of the robots - and *we're* just part of this short term experiment while the robots are being designed and programmed to imitate super-efficient versions of us (minus the intermittent need for sleep). During the past few months, Amazon finally started upgrading the GoCarts themselves - which already makes the physically grueling tasks of cart-staging (as opposed to the ALREADY SUPER-EASY task of pallet-staging) and crossdock both a LOT easier for human workers. The retrofitted door latches no longer allow the GoCart doors to bulge outward, and so the GoCarts now easily fit side-by-side into the trucks without having to body slam any of them to get them all the way in. (The poor fit of the bulging older carts and the constant need to force them into the trucks also causes a lot of damage to the carts themselves which, in turn, makes them even more cumbersome to use.) Besides the new door latches, the upgraded GoCarts now have side handles that allow us to stand to the side of (instead of behind) them so that we can finally actually SEE what's in front of us as we're rolling them across the warehouse and into the trucks. Even the tallest workers had been complaining about the COMPLETE lack of visibility while pushing the filled older carts from behind. There are now also additional ergonomically correct handles for lining them up to push them into their spaces once you get inside the trucks with them. (I'm guessing those particular handles are probably even more helpful when *unloading the full incoming GoCarts,* although so far I've been spared from being assigned to that "less favored" part of the crossdock task.) The upgraded GoCarts are also retrofitted with new side and back panel inserts that don't pop out of place as easily as the older plastic grid panels do, which prevents the smaller packages from falling out while in transit. And finally, the wheels move more smoothly and ALL the brakes are in good working order (although I'm not sure if that's the result of better quality parts, better engineering, or just because those parts are new and were so recently assembled). ALL THAT SAID... Thank God Proteus will soon be completely taking over those STILL-GODAWFUL slave labor tasks!

The style of wheels on the carts aren't the best when it comes to precision and causes tons of friction and movement on whatever connections would be Implemented without using this strategy is what I'm guessing. That's just based off my experience with those wheels especially when the load on them is heavy.

Funny thing is, these robots simply cannot load these carts into the diesel trucks trailers accurately or safely, at best it minimizes some of the movements required by ordinary staff and will reduce the amount of manpower needed in total for each days anticipated production or flow, yawn....

Well - amazon realized they'll ran out of workers in the future. Rather than improving the working condition, they would invest heavily in automation. Dispite currently, machines is less efficient and cost more than human, but I think Amazon is putting faith on the maturation of machine learning and the lowering of machine production. I wonder if the government is going to side with the workers and put tax on machines when Amazon inevitably reduce workers in warehouse. Or they'll side with Amazon and allow for the loss of jobs.
