I saw them in the Amazon. Beautiful animals. They are super protected by law and people there really care for them. The natives say that when one is fishing and they come to the area, they corral the fish so we can get it. I don’t know if that is true or not but as soon as they showed up, the peacock bass started biting and we got several.

I visited the Amazon a few years ago and got to swim near them. One village did a sort of dolphin attraction. The locals only feed them for tourists two days a week so that they don't become too dependent on humans for food. Our guide told us the legend about the botos seducing women and that in some versions of the stories the boto wears a stingray as a hat to hide his blow hole.
@Sameeer_Saker

One the biggest challenges for boto protection is poisoning due to pollution and mercury dumped in water to find gold. They're super vulnerable and Brazil's government does close to nothing to stop it, but people are getting more and more aware of the problem, so there is hope for the amazon's future.

Curiosity , in Brazil, the locals have a tale about a handsome tall guy , that at nights would go out at events and choose the prettiest woman. Than , he would swiftly go nearby the rivers and proceed to transform himself into a pink dolphin , to them drag the woman into the depths of the river , and eat her . This is part of the Amazon folclore, and until recently , locals would usually kill pink dolphins on sight , just to make sure no woman got hurt

On special, and restrics, tours some locals (called " Ribeirinhos") have a platform where they invite wild river dolphins to come by to give snacks. And the best is that they do not give enough food to affect their behave, its literally a little amout of food, nothing substantial, but some do come. Complety wild and free, not that Sea World bullshit. i have visited one of these tour and its amazing. And i just went by because the dolphins have being preserved , and specialists have comproved that its completely fine for them

I just got back from a trip from Peru and got to see quite a bit of the two ‘species’ of river dolphin ( our guide just referred to them as pink -triangular dorsal fin like the one you drew- and grey-smaller with a more crescent shaped dorsal fin- so I am not sure which ones they were of the ones you listed). We swam in the river with them although I don’t know how close we actually got to them because you can’t see anything in that water. They were around and you could see them surface sometimes close by. It was neat to see your footage of them underwater.

Love to see a video on the American Turkey Vulture. They're pretty amazing animals, especially if you can get footage of a huge group of them circling. Keep up the great work!

I have an idea for all of the folkloric sea creature-human shapeshifters now. I desperately want to see a story where they meet and interact. Or at least explore the similarities and differences between them.

I still remember that one 4chan story about a diver finding a river dolphin in a underwater cave and was killing anything that moves for fun. That was a nice fictional story.

A fun fact about the boto myth is that even though it can shape-shift it will always have a hole on the top of its head, so when in human form "he" usually wears a hat and won't let anyone touch it.

Hmm i don't know if you want that. They are pretty smart. They even follow fishers around if they get easy meal from the baits. (They somehow learn to get them from hooks without getting hooked.) They mess up fishers just for the fun of it.

A fun detail regarding the boto folklore legends is that when in human form the boto will wear a hat to hide the blow hole in his had that doesn't go away when shape shifting. Also, a lot of kids are known to be "boto's child", I guess it's pretty obvious why.
