You want to turn on and off that light without having to get up. You need a smart plug. The problem, there are so many to pick from. Enter the new player in the space Amazon. Really it was only a matter of time before Amazon made their own smart plug.
So the question is can this new player with no energy monitoring, or even length of time the plug has been on hold its own against other smart plugs? You will have to watch to find out.

Just get the gold standard THE WEMO switch. You never told us whether or not you can name the plug anything except plug one plug to plug three. This is important because it tells the user where the Appliance is located immediately. Also you can get a refurbished WeMo three for $39 they were great. WEMO is very easy to set up and I’ve never had a failure with it yet. WEMO WORKS WITH EVERYTHING...

Of course you can rename it after set up. I prefer the tp link plug myself.

Great review! I appreciate how you thought about the idle wattage and also the power up state. I'm all the way in on Google, and I found the cheap smart plugs draw around .5 watts in the off state. But that represents around $1.00 per year in cost. I mitigate that cost with it being easy to turn off stuff. Some of my smart plugs have energy monitors so I can see what something costs to run. A dream for someone like me. :)

As a Prime member Amazon gave me two echo dots and two of these smart plugs for a combined $10. Hard to beat that price.

I am considering buying a smart plug. Can you help me understand what kind of lamps I can plug into this plug. WouldI just plug a lamp into this plug and leave the switch in the on position? I guess I don’t understand how this works and I want to learn more before I spend much money on smart plugs. Thanks in advance!

You have it exactly right you would plug your lamp into this and leave it in the on position and then use the Smart Switch to turn on and off the light.

2 questions. Can this handle high output like a space heater?....Have u had any issue with Lp Link? I have heard of the plugs melting at the back from heat.

I don't know if I would chance it with a space heater. I personally have had no issues with my tp-link plugs and have had several.

Hello. Excellent video. I was just wondering, how would I be able to use this with Alexa and connect my Cusinart coffee maker with it?? Meaning how if possible, could I use Alexa to turn it on?? Thank you for your timely response

The plug itself should already be part of Alexa as it is an Amazon product. As for the coffee maker the plug will only control the power to it. If the coffee maker will start right up once power is restored to it then, you technically could start it by using the plug to restore power to it.

I see you have connected a several christmas light bulbs to a power strip (in other video). Does the amazon smart plug support this charge?? I want to do the same, but I'm not sure about the electricity charge. Thank you for your video!!

I have not had an issue with it. In fact I have my Christmas tree and some lights are on my window connected to a power strip that is plugged into the smart plug.

If a TV is plugged into the Amazon outlet and you power off the Amazon Outlet TV will automatically turn off. When you power on the Amazon Outlet the TV will turn itself on.

@@seanlampley5876 that doesnt work. I have my lamps set up for that it works. All alexa does for my tv is shut it off. When i turn on plug tv does not go on just the plug.

From what I have read sounds like it may be a defective plug. I would suggest trying to exchange it for a new one.

Go into Alexa app, devices, select dot in question, scroll down to registered to and select deregister.

It's a data point when they're other plugs that work with more systems. I guess if they can choose to have it only work with their stuff but when there are other options I consider it an issue.

SHURE A LOT OF STUFF DONE OFF CAMERA HAVE NEVER GOT ANYTHING TO WORK FROM COMPUTER OR PHONE ALWAYS SOMETHING THAT WONT WORK OR MATCH OR RECOGNISE SO STUFF THAT WORKS OFF CAMERA IS A SECERET FROM ME

The off camera stuff has sensitive information displayed. Real name Mac address ect. Generally stuff you don't want to share with the world.
