Recently a unique map "Amazon Tunnel" was brought into ranked and I've been keen to try it out and see what people are trying! In this game both players try to control the middle & it gets very interesting! Also penguins have abs, that's cool too.

Possibly unpopular opinion - I like Amazon Tunnel! I get why some folks don't like Black forest with the tiny choke points and huge base areas, this map feels a little more like arena or hideout, where you can have a pretty safe base and boom if you're quick about it, but it's also not as easy to just wall a few tiles. Someone TC dropped me on this map and it was a wild game!

I've never played black forest but it's always seemed like a fun map. Hopefully it'll be in the 1v1 map pool soon.

@@2rslvl126 the problem with black forest is mostly that there are some goons who spezialize in this map only and it´s really not that fun if you meet the 10th person who walls up and builds scorps behind the wall in a row.

1650 player here. Amazon tunnel is my favorite new map. I started playing it well before it was in rotation. It's SO good for teaching new players. I can hold off a couple ai's indefinitely while they have ample time to build up and toodle around doing whatever they want to. Meanwhile a couple expert ai's is challenging enough to be fun for me. It's a relaxed pace that allows me to look away from my own stuff and help them optimize and learn. They can send out troops to fight without repercussions and learn at whatever pace they need. I used to do the same thing on Black Forest, but the map gen on Amazon tunnel is a lot easier for a new player to wrap their heads around. I can drag a game on and control the pace for as long as i feel my friends are enjoying things. you can argue it's not great competitively, but it's a great map for the game that helps bring the skill curve down for inexperienced players

I'm newish to the game and love Amazon Tunnel for this reason. I don't play it all the time as I want to get used to Arabia type of starting resources, but I learn Poles so food isn't much of an issue for me either way. I like BF too, but don't liked the explored aspect online so have stopped practicing on that. Tunnel feels cleaner anyway, and I like the option of clean open or closed plays

One of my favorite maps, really don't understand why folks wouldn't like it. A bit similar to, but more organic, and less meta than Hideout.

Agree. I like that it lets you play in a hideout/arena style, but without the automatic arena setup. And it gives you some more options than Black Forest where the walloff can happen so much faster.

Not everyone likes to Arabia 1v1 all the time (which mostly happens unless banning Arabia). One of the best things about AoEII is the map gen by seeds AND the vast amount of map types that create very different games.

I'm pretty sure Janissary is pronounced exactly like it's spelled, with the emphasis placed on the first syllable. "It is necessary to send a janissary with our emissary." :D

T90 inspired me to play my first ranked game the other day. Got arena and had a lovely fast castle, start getting relics then my opponent hits imp with turks and I shit myself. Soon there's 6 BBC and a lump of Janissaries knocking on the the door. -43 ELO

8:24 The foundations used to mainly be by building size. 1 tile, 2 tile, 3 tile size all had the same foundation according to their size.

You asked what we think: honestly one of the things I really LOVE about Age of Empires 2 is this regular map pool rotation. I don't find that many other games have that aspect. And this game already has the semi-random map generation to keep things fresh. But on top of that we get regularly cycled map pools? To me it's something that keeps the game very fresh and interesting. It allows for a wide variety of skills and strategies to be developed. We've literally seen exactly that from your videos - people who "main" a map like Islands or Migration. People who want to specialize in a unique map with unique conditions. Fatslob and Black Forest - i know that's a bit different. But compare Arena/Black Forest players to Arabia players. Just having the sort of new and fresh opportunities to learn and explore and experience new games and playstyles without having to do anything different yourself is something that keeps the game very fun and very fresh

Please leave the penguin knights! And bring back the boxing villagers! Just smol things for our giggles. You can take them off when casting tournaments, if they're distracting. But normal casts, and especially LEL, it's awesome. It really makes me smile.

Blue had 3500 food banked. I wish blue had used Flemish Revolution as a hail mary. If you think you're going to lose anyway, make it interesting. Red had production issues so a big push of units could have really thrown red off and possibly turned the game around

Hahaha... I'm having a lot of fun watching the higher elos playing maps that usually are chosen by the low-mid elo. As you said, democracy in this case brought us caos, worst for the high elos, more fun for us. Sorry if my grammar is bad, English is my second languaje.

hey T90 have you seen a bug where you move some of your army (lets say you move all your skirms to attack) and the game also moves nearby units to the same position? like moving your melee units or trebs too, pretty annoying

I know the feeling of having your clowning account higher rated than your main one. Back in the days of Pokemon 4th gen wifi battles, i used my 2nd ds to battle people using my troll teams (used different chat log in as well), and somehow had better win loss record. My troll xbox log in that I used free gold membership coupons for had better K/D on games than my regular one.

A good rule of thumb is that the more the map is covered in trees - the more noob friendly it is. The map is boring to the point I would rather take a weeks queue ban than have to play it.

A lot of people don't know this but the reason penguins don't have six packs anymore is thanks to global warming. Most if not all of their gyms have been lost with the melting ice caps. I'm just glad DE has immortalized the buff penguins so they are not completely lost to time 🙏

See I fall into that trap of going fast castle off the extra food (I also mostly play civs with a strong castle age). I know the answer is probably “depends” but is that probably the wrong call for tunnel?

It's kind of impossible to say without more details. Fast castle is definitely not a bad choice, I would say it's what most people do, but without knowing the details, hard to say where your trouble could be.

@@dimitrikemitsky to be fair I haven’t played a lot of tunnel games but I’m mostly an arena player that plays bohemians. I think my main issue is that I hit castle and then have to fight the other player for control they’ve already taken in the middle. If I’m playing efficiently and/or they’re making mistakes, it’s an easy take. If they play more efficiently or noticeably more aggressively than I do, it’s much harder.

@@JoycenatorGaming makes sense, a lot is a question of getting walls down. If opponent civ has a weaker early castle, I will usually wall at the choke closer to my base, go FC behind it, then immediately contest middle on hitting castle, knowing they won't hit their stride immediately, so I can probably get it back before they really hold it. But if we both have equally strong early castle or they seem like they're a bit higher elo, I will push to get walls on the choke by their base, even if it slows castle (as I wouldn't be confident quickly attacking mid, better to roll dice contesting it early). One thing I have started doing that has worked very well is Drush FC and use the drush militia+scout to defend 1-2 vils that will wall the far choke and clear any vils they send forward. This slightly delays the FC, but it's somewhat made up for because with barracks down for drush, I can make my feudal buildings stable+blacksmith instead of market+blacksmith and thus open with knights to center instantly on hitting castle. One more thing I am going to try for the memes is picked civ, Cumens, fast feudal and drop my Feudal TC to secure mid, then defend and boom behind. I suspect this will be bad, but it'll be fun.

So T90, why is this a LEL? Because it seems just a very generic game to me. Push the middle, castle the resources and relic, snowball, win. No crazy stunt pulled, no special tactic that either wins or ruins the game, no crazy comeback...
